I need some help................Im trying to workout baby birth weights and how to covert the kg weight into pounds and ounces......We have 3 kiddies and one on the way, all their weights have been worked out in hospital by the midwives and i can't work out how they convert the birth weights .......eg:
DD was 3825gms.......8 lbs 7 ozs
DS was 3700gms.......8 lbs 5 ozs
DS was 3110gms.......6 lbs 14 ozs
But when i work it out with the conversion rates off the internet i come up with......
DD 8 lbs 4 ozs
DS 8 lbs 1 ozs
DS 6 lbs 8 ozs
I can't for the life off me work out how the midwives convert the babies birth weight.........Someone please help  .....MM xx

There was a chart at the hospital I had DD1 in that said;
454 grams = 1 pound.
And I think there are 16 ounces to a pound...
That's about as much help as I can be
ETA: curiosity got the better of me and when I worked it out I got 8lbs 7oz, 8lbs 3oz (I might have stuffed up there), 6lb 14oz.

MM - I know what is happening.....:detective:
When you divide 3825g by 454 you get 8.4.
8.4 doesnt stand for 8lb 4oz...its 8.4lbs.
There are 16 ounces in an pound... so 0.4 of an pound is actually about 7 ounces.
Does that make sense?
Kema:bee:
As for a calculation to work it out...I just use the app on my mobile...I'm too lazy to work it out any other way. :o

Thanks Kema that does make sence......but now i'm going to ask another dumb question! .......Whats the formula to working out 0.4 of a pound is 7 ozs?.........Thankyou for being my brain!............MM xx
Hey MM!
Multiply the 0.4 by 16 to find out how many ounces four tenths of a pound is:
0.4 x 16 = 6.4 ounces.
So, your 3825g bubba is about halfway between 8 lb 6 oz and 8 lb 7 oz.
(the reason the 0.4 isn't four ounces is that the decimal system works in tenths and the imperial measurements are in sixteenths in this case).
HTH!
:yelclap: Gazelle,
You explained it much better than I did...I was so tired when I posted last night...lol.
There you go MM you now have a formula for conversion....I should write it down somewhere.

My son Travis was 3700grams at birth too and I was told that he was 8 pound 3, how strange that the same birth weight can be different in pounds and ounces
