View Full Version : How long did you wait before TTC after C-Section??
Hi
I had to elect to have a C-Section due to a high head and poor fetal heartrate as my Obs did not want to induce me ( felt it was too dangerous! )
Anyways that was in March. What I was wanting to know is how long did you wait after a C-Section before you TTC again?? I was thinking around 12 months. I was really hoping to have a VBAC next time round.

we haven't used birthcontrol since March 2003  and have been sexually active since 3 days after birth so basically straight away!

They do say that 18 months to 2 years from birth to birth is a good gap to have for a VBAC. It gives your scar time to heal. But plenty of women have had successful VBACs earlier than that.
If you were to conceive when your baby is 12 months then their gap would be 19 months which is ideal.
The gap between births for me will be about 21 months and I'll be trying for a VBAC too. :fingerscrossed:

Hi
I am wondering the same. I had a c- section in Jan this year and my partner is wanting for us to try for another bub. I've just been wondering if there should be a gap - giving the scar time to heal. My Gp said 12mths, but not sure if he meant 12mthe till we conceive again, or 12 mths till i give birth????? Am so clucky again already!!!!!!!!

I am going to TTC in mid 2008. That'll be approx 3 years after my c-section. I want to have a VBAC, so I want to wait a while to MAKE SURE that my body is better prepared...and also have time to get myself in order.
I'd also prefer not to have two babies...a baby and a young child is fine (that way I can just give one a sandwich whilst feeding the other...instead of deal with all sorts of cr*p!).

We were not TTC but I concieved 12 weeks after my DD was born via my 2nd emerg c-sect. I was told I had a INCREDIBLY slightly higher increase in my scar rupturing because of this but basically negligible. I have experienced a bit more discomfort in my scar but my doctor tells me this is from having had 2 c-sects and therefor more scar tissue rather than being from now being 8.5 months preg and having had csect 11.5 months ago.
So personally I think as soon as you're ready go for it.
my GP and Ob both said waiting too long is more dangerous than not waiting at all, said after 5 yrs the scar toughens up, becomes less stretchy and more likely to rupture.
