Hey everyone!
I have a 6 week old boy and i have just started to give him 180 mls of formula he is on s26 gold.
I was actually giving him 150mls from 3 weeks of age but he just now wants more!
He even cries for more now after the 180 mls!
The packaging sais to give 120mls still at his age and not to give 180 until 8 weeks of age... but he always is so hungry!
Any suggestions??
He wants to be fed every 3hours too, sometimes 2 but i definately hold him off until 3. He has 6 bottles in 24 hours.
His putting on alot of weight too, so i am probably making him fat :( Am not sure what i should do!
Love to hear from your experiences.
If he needs to drink more than the recommended amount for his age, let him
The amounts on the tin are a guide only and because babies can't read, they will drink whatever it takes to make them full.
My DD is 5 days old today and drinking between 70-80mls of formula per feed. She is on Heinz Nurture gold and it recommends 50ml per feed.
You know your baby better than anyone so if he wants a little extra to fill him up thats ok :D

My little one is a week old today :D And he's drinking between 50-70mls per feed...yet I'm giving him 2 EBM per day so not sure if that affects how much formula he wants. A couple of times he's had 50mls EBM then 50mls formula straight after...which is a lot for a young bub...
But yeah...I just let him call the shots in terms of how much and how often. We have a basic 3 hr routine, but most days that doesn't happen and he wants a feed more or less often (depending on how much he had the previous feed.)
Hope that helps....

My DS is totally different to what the tins say ... its only a rough guide for the "average" baby...
IMO the tins should have their feeding guides listed by the babies weight not by how many weeks, it would cause less stress to parents
The genral rule by the hospitals, SCN & NICU is to go by bubs weight... they say in the first few months its 150ml per kg of body weight divided by how many feeds they are on roughly..
for example my baby is 10 weeks old (a very tiny 10 week old) he weighs 3.6 kg, so for him its 3.6 x 150 = 540 / 7 feeds per day = 77 mls per feed he should be having roughly... but he will take 80-100 per feed :D
i would ignore what the tin says, cause if i went by that my baby should be drinking double the amount and there is no way he could gut that amount
ignore the tin its a guide line only, be guided by what bubs wants to drink

:iagree::iagree: Robin Barker in her book 'Baby Love' uses the same formula. Her book is my bible!

i just posted a thread with info from the royal childrens hospital, regarding this topic :p
tattoomummy, fantastic!! when i left hospital, i was like , how much do i give him!!???
they said just follow the tin...
im like, surely theres a formula... and there it is:D
ta!
We were told a set amount to give DS when we left hospital, but when we went to Child, Youth & Health last week the nurse said to feed him until he's full. I've just ignored what it says on the tin!

Yes this formula is correct and needs to be used for SC babies but not shall i say normal you know what i mean i hope ! my dd was 1 and when ds came along i wanted to know exactally but have since been told that a normal baby should be offered what they require individually, if they are finishing bottle at 150ml then ofer them 180ml a normal baby knows when and how much milk they want

My DS is six weeks old too. He has (most days) 6 150ml bottles. one more than the tin says.
He now weighs 5kg. a little over the 50th pecentile in the Blue book chart. He loves his food and has from birth.
