Hi Tania
I just had my 6 week check up with my OB. He prescribed me with Ovestin Cream. He knows I am b'feeding but now that I have done some googling on the internet, many say not to use if you are b'feeding. I am to use it twice a week only. What are your thoughts on this treatment whilst b'feeding? Thanks.

Hi There,

Well it seems this is a very common question, and many new mums are being prescribed Ovestin Cream to help with vaginal dryness after birth. Ovestin cream is basically a hormone replacement, providing estriol, a form of estragen. I know your doctor knows you are breastfeeding and has put you on a low dose. However it is worth considering that the estriol will get into your blood stream and trace amounts may be present in your breastmilk. There is also a small risk that it may interfere with your milk flow.

I would discuss this with your doctor again, your body is still recovering from birth and your hormones will regulate with time - if it was prescribed to you for vaginal dryness/painful sex you may want to consider a product called Sylk which is a natural lubricant.

A good diet and lots of rest and patience will help your body regulate and your hormones and body will be back into the swing of things in no time.

Discussing this with your doctor and having all the information will help you make an informed decision as to what's best for your and your bub.

Wishing you all the best :flowerz:
