hey Guys

As the tittle sugests does any one else wory about the amount of medications that there little ones are on or have had, and the knock on efect from it.

This by NO means a thread to get at people whos kids take medication, My DD is on alot of meds and It wories me the efect it wil have on her over time, and as she gets older KWIM

NONE of DDs meds are optional, well I gues there is an option for everything but some times the options that are given there is no contest KWIM

DD is on lots of anticonvulsion meds and they scare the cr@p out of me, as they are the same meds use to mood disorders etc and I often wonder if a person with out a mood disorder taking them would it make them have mood issues syciatric issues etc as they get older KWIM, BUT then I cant not give her the AC meds as the alternative is for her to suffer more fits which isnt nice for her to deal with

Then I wory about what is all of this doing to her liver that is already questioned as to how its functioning (they think it doesnt release gycgrogen), so that makes me wory about her GI meds but again the alerntative is a burnt bleeding osophagus and lots of pain, and with out her GI motility meds wel we simply cant get feeds into her KWIM

then even the stuff like panadol, pain stop, morphine and the likes I wory about them sort of thing, I mean she doesnt have them often but always does for post op pain or for accute pain and illness KWIM, We never give any pain meds with out evidence that her vitals are responding to pain

So anyone else also wory about this sort of thing or am I out on my own

Yep DS takes a lot of steroids more regularly than I like that reduce his immunity and can cause amongst many other things bone brittleness and osteo issues :(

its scary isnt it becuase its like dammed if you do damed if you dont, I find the steroid thing a biggy also, its like they need it to breath during resp bugs BUT it then makes them more subseptable to getting another one GRRRR

Yep I am petrified to take up him up the hospital at the best of times because of catching stuff but when he is really ill its dead scary because it inevitably means he has been taking prednisone in some form... and well there are plenty of kids there who are really sick.... and contagious. Dh had a hospital stay last week in the childrens ward and all my mother could go on (and on and on and on... :p) about was bl00dy whooping cough going around, how she was sure the kid in the next room had it and how we shouldn't let him play with the toys incase some contagious child had touched them first.... just what you need to hear! Good on ya Mum :hair:

Mind you Dh was really annoyed with the armchair GPs when we took him to the GP earlier that day who had decided he must have had whooping cough.... so I was mindful of this when my mother was carrying on

yes the childrens hospital is just like one big petry dish, DD got all her major illneses last year whist on hospital recovering from bowel surgery (adno virus, influenza, and rota) and that was in a single room, with great nurses that ALWAYS steralise there hands before entering her room i think its just in the air in them places

about your MIL they seem to have a nack to do that dont they, if she is anything like my MIL she would of said it at the top of her lungs as wel lol

Yep I worry & G is barely on anything compared to others !

I was all excited at the prospect of him being off Losec & then lowering his Zantac to only come full round again ... Aaah wells !

It is a damned if you do, damned if you dont !

Sometimes I think " eeeek we dont really need these do we ?!?!?! " then I see him refluxing, in pain & becoming so out of sorts it breaks my heart ... Then the vomitting can start which as you know can mean blood *sigh* which then has me only wanting it to stop.

Then I HATE that he needs stuff for his bowels ... I tried having him off them for a few months thinking all would be fine & everything was great with the reflux & he is OK ! Bah it all went south again so he is back on it to keep everything all in working order !

I think I am in denial that he needs the stuff still iykwim but as I said we really are much better off than some !

Yes but as u know not much we can do about it!!!

Me "I always ask okay can we stop or reduce the ......... ???

Doctor.... "NO"

Me "Why not"

Doctor " Cause your child will end up in agony with more serious issues than the side effect from the drug"

Me " Okay, can't blame me for trying"

Doctor... " Good try" :laughing::laughing:

Then of course I get the opposite from Pharmacy

Pharmacy "U know this drug is VERY expensive for the hospital to supply"

Me " Would u prefer my child to be in hospital on TPN???

"\\Pharmacy "Oh...... have a good day"
