View Full Version : What do you do with your baby/toddler while you're in the shower?

I usually leave Lily in the lounge room with some books and toys, make sure all the windows and doors are locked, and leave the bathroom door open.

But I get so paranoid, I usually end up running out, dripping with water, shampoo in my hair, shaving cream all over my legs, 2 minutes into my shower to check on her! :o

Only to find her reading quietly to herself on the couch :o (LOL, she must think I'm crazy!)

What do others do?

I usually try to leave it for when she is in bed but when I have to I sometimes pop her in the shower too or pop her in her high chair in the bathroom with toys.

If my wife or I are home alone with our son, who is 16 months, and we need to have a shower, we'll normally just sit him on the bathroom floor with a bunch of toys. That way we can see him so we know he's ok, and he can see us, so he knows where we are.

Seems to work for us.

I'm a paranoid mummy because I know I have one very cheeky monkey on my hands who will take any opportunity to get into mischief. Still at nearly 5 years old he's either in the shower with me, with DH or asleep.

i used to have my little one sitting in the bottom of the shower or bath with me if i needed to have a shower while they were awake or just wait till they were asleep

I either wait until Skye has a nap (I put a dvd on for Hayley or she comes into the bathroom with me and we talk) or I wait until Grant comes home so he can watch the kids. I very rarely have showers in the morning.

our ensuite has a very long shower, so I sit Gizaiah at the back of the shower with all his bath books and toys. So once I finish washing then its bubs turn to get scrubbed.

I popped them in the exersaucer when they were younger, in the swing when they were little bubs (if they weren't asleep). At 3.5 years and 19 1/2 months I just close the doors to the rooms that should have constant supervision (laundry/toilet and our room) and then let them go. Our bathroom is central to the house so I can hear them playing, or they watch ABC kids.
For a while with DD1 I got up and showered before she woke up. We lived in a different place then and you couldn't hear anything from the bathroom.

I want one of those showers... my parents have one at their place, it's cool

If it's a quick shower (no shaving, no shampooing) then I'll leave him with toys in the lounge or in the jumping frame (not a jolly jumper, quite safe). I'm in and out in like a minute.

If it's a decent shower I take him into the ensuite with me & he just fiddles about in there.

Ds is either in the bath or shower with us or if not tends to want to sit on the floor and talk to us anyhow.... as a newborn we showered with him and/or when he was in the bath

DS comes in the shower with me most of the time. We've been doing that since he was about 12 months old. Prior to that I'd sit him in his rocker or his Bumbo on the bathroom floor with some toys/books/etc and talk to him while I was showering.

I try to shower before my husband leaves for work (that's not hard, he leaves at 1pm!). Otherwise, stick her in front of ABC Kids. She usually just pops in and out of the bathroom - there's no way she'd stay in the bathroom with a pile of toys while I shower, she'd be more inclined to unroll the toilet paper, put things into the toilet, open and slam shut the shower door, and eat the contents of the drawers. All that in about 20 seconds before running off to make more mischief somewhere else in the house.

Wait till DF is home, or wait till she has a nap...

It used to be quite a challenge as we had a tiny bathroom ... but we did manage to put the highchair in so he could sit in that during showers - but it left 80cm square spot for us to dry & get dressed. Now, we have a new bigger bathroom and the highchair fits readily. So, most of the time if we're showering when he's home he goes into the highchair with food or books. He's happy.

Otherwise I leave him watching tv or playing - he's usually quite happy doing both first thing in the morning. He will wander in and out (I keep the door open) and doesn't get up to much mischief. He's quite happy to sit on his step in the bathroom and talk to me for most of the shower.

The minute my hubby is home - kiss, cuddle, "how was your day....okay... I'm in the shower, heres baby!"

And then I get in the shower and for 20 minutes I can totally zone and forget I'm a mummy.

usually in the mornings when coop has a bath i will either jump in the bath with him or have the shower going while he is in the bath as he only baths during the mornings as we get home a bit late and he is generally ready for bed anyway. at night if i decide to have a shower, i show by myself:smiliedance:

When DS was newborn to crawling stage i would either shower when he was asleep or put him in the bouncer/highchair in the bathroom with me. Now that he can walk i just put him in the shower with me, it definetely makes things easier and i don't have to worry about where he is or if he is ok.

I shower with her :D She has a lot of toys in the shower and she plays around while I do whatever.. then I leave her in there, get out and dressed etc and then take her out and dress her.

DD2 is in her bouncer or asleep.

My DD loves water, so I can never really have a shower on my own unless she is asleep.

Either give her to DP, take her in with me (bub and I both shower/bath at the same time at night for this reason) or leave her to sleep in her rocker or cot. If she's in the rocker, I move it into the bathroom with me so I can keep an eye on her.

It depends, I usually try to shower before DD wakes up but if not, she either has a shower with me or she watches ABC kids while I have a quick shower.

I'm the same as you though. I get all panicky if I shower while she's in another room. Sometimes I even bring her highchair into the bathroom with me and she eats her breakfast while I'm showering.

I wake up before them and shower then. With 4 of them, if I didn't do it this way we'd never leave the house.

The house is baby proof and there is a gate stopping her from coming out into the kitchen bathroom area so I just make sure shes entertained and go have one.
Or sometimes on a lazy day I wait until she has a nap after lunch.
