Im curious to know if young mums are more likely to end up having a c/section rather than a vaginal birth?

An old friend told me the other night i'd end up having to get a c/section because im so little... my ob hasnt mentioned anything like this to me before:no:

So im just curious as to how you girls delivered?

Samantha dont let people stress you out because you are little. My friend is a size 6 and delivered both her normal sized babies naturally - no stitches, and fabulous labours!

I didnt vote on the poll because my first birth was complicated and ended in an emergency c/section.
This next bub I will be trying for a VBAC - so hopefully a vaginal delivery for me this time! :fingerscrossed:

i was a size 6 (not any more tho) :o
15 days over due - i was screaming for them to cut me open and just get him out - a week of failed inductions was enough for me - but they made me press on and i had a regular VB!

Dont let ppl freak you out with stories, everyone is different and i thought young women had a higher sucess rate at VB? Thats just a thought tho, nothing to back that up with.

I had a c-section...I was 14 days overdue and after 3 failed inductions, Doctors told me it was my only option (though I now know otherwise... ).

Anyway, I was a size 16...so I don't really think it will generally have much to do with size.

Your body is clever and will make the baby to suit your size!;)

I had a c-section though (long story), but this time hope for a vbac!:D

I was a size 7-8 when I fell pg and delivered a 9lb 1oz, 56cm long baby vaginally. She also had a huge head (I just read of a 12lb baby with a smaller head!) so don't stress!

Vb for me! Had a long fairly painless first stage of labour (50hours) then he came shooting out in 5mins!

I had a VB, I had to have an epi (bub's head wasn't fitting but I found the whole thing to be an awsome experience, I would choose VB over c/s any day. Both me and my bub (ok maybe not her head) were small, the body tends to (but not always) make a bub the right size for your body:D

c section for both of mine. the first was because my pelvis wasnt big enough for my baby's buff head.but they didnt know till i was having her so emergency c/s for that one and the second i elected to hav because between the 2 kids i had pre cancerous cells removed and it left scar tissue so i didnt want to find out the hard way that i may not be able to dialate. i hav a friend who is tiny and delivered normally yet her sister who is about a size 16 had to hav an emergency c/s so i dont think size matters. as long as there is enogh room for bubs head to come out.

I had to have an emergency C-section because she was in breech, and also 11 weeks early so it was too risky. But I'm hoping for a VB next time!

30 is NOT old Kazza..

DS Jake arrived via a VB.. but only just!

I was a size 8 before I had Jake.. and was quite worried about being able to deliver vaginally. I'm straight up and down :( so didn't think I could get any size skull through my teeny weeny pelvis (yeh pants rarely stay up on me hehe). But they assured me I had nothing to worry about..

Jake was finally delivered after 40 hours of labour.. the last 9 hours being from 8cm dilated on.. 2 hours of unsuccessful pushing.. failed vacuum-cap (it popped off and broke his skin  ) -- forcep delivery. Jake's right clavicle (aka shoulder/collar bone) was broken being yanked through my pelvis.. and I severely hammoraged. Not much fun.. and I have to have a C/S next time.

Best advice.. go with your gut feeling. I felt right up to that last moment something wasn't right. But keep in mind tiny girls have had large babies.. and large girls have had tiny babies.. everyone is different..

Just don't wait as long as I did before begging for a C/S.. :barf:

xoxo

The pelvis is designed to fit anything through it, especially when dialated.
You will dialate the normal 10 cms and this is usually the rim of the cervix, and is pretty pliable and actually stretches open further when head descension occurs.
Size of the mother has no bearing, usually when an OB or midwife talk about heads not fitting etc its usually because the mother does not have the strength/capability to push with the force needed to deliver the head through the pelvis, thus the need for forceps etc or c-section.

I had 3 when I was young(including twins) and delivered all vaginally.

Emergency C/S for me...i went through 56 hours of labour  before they realised that there was no way archie was going to be delivered by VB....i was also told by a doctor friend in the beginning that being tiny would probably mean that i would have to have a C/S....he was right but I also agree with everyone else that being small doesn't necessarily mean a C/S.

VB for me. I'm a sz12 and ended up with an episiotomy for a vac since he was a wee bit stuck. My SIL is a sz 6 - 8 and her first 2 girls were born VB without any help. She is about to pop any time now for her 3rd VB (if all goes to plan)

I'm a tiny size 8 and had a VB to a 10.2lbs baby!!

I needed a episiotomy and now have severe prolapse due to the prolonged third stage of labour that I endured.

I had a VB, was a quick birth, but had severe tearing front and back, severe hemorrhaging and then clotting, and was rushed to emergency surgery after my son was born a health 8lb 11oz, 56cm long....

It has made me rethink my position if i choose to have another child, and I'm considering making the decision of a c/s, mainly cos I'm scared to go through a vb again.....:(

Not wanting to scare u....just giving u a view of a worst case scenario

Hi.... Ive had both my first was a vb and my 2nd was emergency c/s i have to say i prefer vb by far ... a c/s is major abdo surgery and i would never opt for one.

i had a emergency c/section, due to failure to progress. I was in labour for 36 hours and only got to 5cm. Everytime i got a contraction hayleys heartrate would drop so they really had no choice but to get her out asap. She was born with a cone head due to her head butting my cervix, she wanted to come out i just wouldnt let her...lol my next one im going to try VBAC.

My friend is very very tiny and delivered her son without a problem, i still don't know how she managed it:confused:

I have had plenty of doctors tell me
Your body no matter how tiny you are will expand for bub.

you'll be fine :hugs:
