Hi Everyone,

I recently had a miscarriage. Hubby & I aren't going to try again for a month or so, but I'd like to start temping and monitoring my cycles.

So my Q is: In the cycle after you miscarriage, when would the first day of your cycle be? Is it the day your miscarriage started, or is it when your miscarriage ended? I know in a normal cycle it's the first day of bleeding, but not sure if that's the same with a miscarriage.

Any help would be appreciated, or any advice, guidance etc.

 I just had a miscarriage aswell, I had a d&c and asked this question to my dr a couple of weeks ago. She said that I should take the day i had the d&c as the first day of my cycle... BUT they dont actually know thats why they make you wait for a period before trying again.

hope that helped ....

Thanks Dot - I plan on waiting at least 1 cycle, maybe 2, before trying again but just thought this might be a good opportunity to see what kind of pattern my temps have during a cycle.

I'm going to assume that my first full day of bleeding was cycle day 1. I had a day of spotting and then a light flow, so will count the day of light flow as CD1.

If that's true though - I'm now up to CD8 and haven't taken temp yet. Guess I need to get on that.

On a positive note thought, it does also mean that I'm already 1/4 through this cycle already. Maybe it won't be that much of a wait till we can start TTC again after all.

Iris - thanks for the hugs.

Hi magic girl, so sorry for your loss :hugs:

I don't know the technical answer to your question, but like Dot said, that's probably why it's best to wait a cycle before ttc again. I had a m/c in Dec last year and it was nearly 40 days (from the first day of m/c bleeding) before I got my period again. Then I had a chemical pregnancy in Feb and my cycle was only 22 days after that.... I guess my point is that it is hard to predict what your body will do.

Good luck with ttc :)

P.S. there are a couple of great threads (and lots of knowledgeable and supportive ladies) in the Miscarriage and Loss section of the forum, if you are interested.

Sorry to hear about your m/c :hugs:i hope you travelling ok.
When i had my m/c i waiting untill i got my normal af back which was 6 weeks after my m/c i just found it easier that way, otherwise i had no clue what was going on with my cycles.

Ok so I just thought I'd post an update for anyone who may read this in the future...

Asked my Obs about cycle lengths etc after miscarriage and she said that the average length of a cycle before AF if you have a D&C is 5 weeks. If you have a natural miscarriage it's usually longer.

So I've been bleeding now for almost 2 weeks. I assume that it will be another 3/4 weeks before AF.

So I guess once your bleeding starts to slow down that's when your cycle really starts, although my ob said it's usually from when the heavy bleeding begins.

I reckon it's that no-one knows the truth and all you can do is wait it out.

I miscarried on NYE, I didn't have a d&c and my regular cycle started 4/2/9, 5 weeks later. Doctors told me to wait 3 months until the cycle regulated itself before ttc but mine has pretty much been normal since m/c and I am now playing the waiting game before testing for a surprise pregnancy. Very sorry for your loss, I know what it's like. :hugs:
