I'm currently 13 weeks and have had pretty bad morning sickness. A few days ago I got out of hospital after throwing up 16 times in one day.
Since I got out I still can hardly keep anything down, I'm living on a few biccies and maybe two pieces of fruit a day. I finally managed to eat a meal my body didn't retch at the sight of last night and after lying down extremely nauseous for a couple of hours it all came back up.
I've been on maxalon (which hardly seems to help) and I got one wafer of zofran from the hospital which I'm wary of using until I goto work on tuesday because it has to last me a week. (I couldn't get a doc's appt till then.)
I'm also taking B6 tablets and blackmores pregnancy vitamins.
EVERYONE I know seems to have advice and have tried it all - ginger, dry biccies, b vitamins and more.
Is the fact I can hardly eat anything going to negatively effect my baby?
Thanks, Susy

I don't really know if it will have a negative affect on your baby but I just want to tell you about a similar story.

A girl I know had extreme morning sickness through out her whole pregnancy (not what you want to hear I know).

She was in and out of hospital consistantly and whilst she was a bit overweight (about 80kg) before she fell pregnant, by the time the baby was born she had dropped down(I think she got as low as about 55 - 60kg).

Her baby was born healthy (luckily) but it was very small and had to remain in hospital for a few weeks

She said she lived basically on lemonade icypoles. She would take a bite and let it melt and put the rest back in the freezer. In half an hour or so she would take another bite and keep doing this until all the icy pole was gone.

I really hope that your morning sickness does not continue to this extreme and that it subsides soon. :fingerscrossed:

(This girl is currently pregnant with her 2nd child and the first pregnancy has not repeated itself. She has had a healthy weight gain throughout this second pregnancy).

I have sympathy for you :hugs:

I got very sick all 4 times to the point I would be vomiting up nothing but bile every cpl of hours. Every bit of water I swalled came back up and so did my preg vitamin tablets at times too!!
I lived on ice...woolies sells edible ice in big bags and I sucked on that all day...bringing most of it back up again. I'd eat the tiniest bit of a dry biccy & if I was lucky, it would stay down. I liked to eat bananas...because they came up the same as they went down (TMI sorry...but after vomiting dairy, toast ect...banana's are wayyy better..lol).

My 1st 2 pregs I lived in bed and when I had my toddler..he'd stay in my room all day with toys and the tv on..I couldn't get up and I hated the smell of food too. Come dinner time and hubby started to cook, I'd have to go to the bedroom behind 2 sets of closed doors just to get away from the smell.

It was worse with preg 3 & 4 as I had to go to school and pre-school for my older 2....I had to drive with a bucket under my chin :barf: and a cup of ice with me all the time.
This lasted till I was about 25 weeks with all 4 pregs!

Although 3 out of 4 of my babes came 3-4 weeks early...they were all healthy considering I was sooo sick and didn't eat for soo long!

I know how you feel. I spent a good 3 months with my head in a bucket.

In the end all i could keep down was cottage cheese bicci's with vegimite & lived on that till i was 17 weeks.

I also found the days i didnt take the suppliments were the days i felt better & in the end stopped taking them till i could stomach food.

Was on Maxalon from 4 weeks till 20 weeks & i found if i took it like clock work every 8hrs i was alot better off, it ment setting an alarm for stupid hours in the morning but made me feel better.

Also lost about 7kg's which hasnt effected my babies at all, they are all growing at the same rate.

Thank you for the replies. I'm only 50kg normally so hoping to keep weight on because I'm a naturally skinny person.
I have icy poles and bananas (yes they do come up better!) but still working so can't lie down all day (much as I really really want to!)
I will try and take my maxalon more regularly (was trying to keep to 1-2 a day) and see if that helps.
Thanks guys

Take the Maxalon every eight hours other wise it wont work.

*hugs!*

I threw up every single day for 3 months, and had a few bad days - throwing up 10+ times in one day!

One thing I had was icy poles that have eletrolytes in them to help with dehydration.

I couldn't eat anything for 3 months, I lived off maybe 1 bland snack a day.

I think I lost about 5 kilos in my first trimester.

By the 2nd I was exhausted, but I slowly got my appetite back and while I never put on a lot of weight, I gave birth to a perfectly healthy little boy, who's now a MASSIVE 5 month old.

I think stay in contact with your doctors/midwives about how you feeling and take care, but your body will provide for your baby - its your body that will suffer!
