Hey guys
Just a question about breech babies. If you have a breech baby do you have to have a cs? Has anyone given birth to a breech baby normally?
My baby isn't breech at the moment (Im only 29 weeks) but Im scared about breech babies (I dont want a cs if poss).

I had a breech baby. They didnt know she was actually breech until after 28 hours of labour - so at least you know now!!! She was coming bum first (ouch! ) so they didnt want me to deliver naturally - I ended up having an emergency caesar. It wasnt my ideal birth (I really didnt want a caesar) but I didnt have much choice.
When the time comes you have to prepare yourself for all possibilities. That way you dont freak out if something goes wrong. (like I did! LOL!)
They can actually turn the baby around in some cases, so they might want to do that.
You can in some cases deliver naturally (VB) with a breech, but theres more chance of having an epesiotimy (sp?) - but that can happen with a normal delivery too!
My advice would be to have your baby closely monitored for the remaining time in your pregnancy. Talk to your ob or doc about still delivering naturally - they are way to quick to offer or suggest a caesar birth nowdays. Stick to your guns and trust your instincts!
Its YOUR birth!!
Good Luck! :)

You really need to talk to your doctor or midwives about the options they'll consider for breech births. Some prefer cs, some will only do cs. And sometimes it depends on the type of breech - how bub is positioned and what part is going to come out first, ie feet or bum.
As Briannabear said, it is possible to turn breech babes. We tried this with my dd but had no luck. It did give my dr a good workout though. The success depends on bub's size, when you try (at 37.5 weeks, we were a bit late) and the type of breech (her feet were beside her ears, so it was tough to "roll" her).
There are also things you can do yourself to encourage bub to turn head down and stay that way. The only one I know of though is to spend alot of time on all fours - like scrubbing floors. I hadn't tried this as dd was head down until 36.5 weeks when she decided to turn and be breech.
The only other thing I'll mention is that sometimes there is a reason why bub is breech. In my case, an ultrasound at 37 weeks showed that her head diameter was nearly 10cm. I'm not a big person and the general concensus was that she turned breach because her head was too big to drop down into my pelvis. I'm not sure how common this is, don't panic... All of her dad's side has huge heads. But it's unlikely i'd have been able to have a vb even if we'd tried because of her head size.

Hi there!
I had to have a c-section as both my babies were breech. Hayden had engaged Breech and that was a problem!
My Ob is not keen on delivering too many breech babies especially not if they have prior warning of it....Best of luck I am sure your OB will do the best thing for you ;)

Hi,
my girlfriend from work is currently 34 weeks pregnant with her fourth baby, her baby was breech 2 weeks ago but has since turned head down, so hopefully cross your fingers and there maybe a chance that your baby may turn up the right way too.
Cheers Pippa xoxoxox

Women give birth to breech babies vaginally all the time with midwives. Easy peasy! In fact many women say that birthing their breech baby was easier than their head down baby. All pregnant women should be practicing optimal foetal positioning anyway but you can also use it to move a breech baby if you want to. This is a great website about how to do that :D Enjoy!
