What formula is the best?

Hello Ladies,

We are going to need to start giving Oliver some formula to top him up, as his appetite is increasing but I dont seem to be able to express any more (even adding a couple more expression sessions a day).

I was wondering which formula is the best? I dont want him being constipated or getting colicy....

All suggestions appreciated!

I cant tell you which one is the best but I have my daughter on heinz nurture and I havent had a problem with it
i chose this because I know heinz is a good brand and a few of my friends had used it.

karicare, it is recommend by a lot of professionals. i know that s26 is very constipating!!!! my son zane is on the goat formula and it is great.

we use heinz nurture we did used to use karricare gold but it used to block our bubba up really bad but since we have changed to heinz we havent had any problems at all

Like you I'm supplementing breastfeeds with formula. I tried Nan HA which constipated my son, so have switched to Karicare 1 and haven't had any problems. Use the regular not the Gold version, as the Gold is for purely formula fed babies, while the regular is for use when you are supplementing.

I started Oliver on Karicare ( CHN advice) when i was supplementing and giving night feeds but found he got loads of wind and was :barf: . So i switched to S26 Gold after about a month, when he went on formula only and found that was much better for him. I aalways give him some infants friend drops before each feed and i haven't had a problem since. All CHN will give differing advice unfortunately. wish doctors could do a quick test to tell u which formula bub is the best for YOUR bub. There's just way too many to choose from!!!!!!!!:eek:

We heard nothing but good stuff about Heinz so that is what we put Tamara on and we have had no problems. It is just trial and error to see what is going to work for him.

I think you just got to try and see what works best, I used S26 GOLD with my daughter and now I am starting to wean my son as I am not making too much milk for him and he needs more , so again I am using S26 GOLD.

I use S26 Gold for Griff and he's not had problems with it :thumbsup:

I've heard so many ppl say this but my son was the opposite! :confused:

We put him on Karicare Gold (cos I didn't have enough milk) and he was so badly constipated that he used to scream and his poos were literally like hard little pebbles. One night there was even a tiny little smear of blood on the poo. He'd been on Karicare for less than a week. We switched to S26 and within a week he was back to normal, thank Goodness!!

One of my gf's told me about Heinz Nurture and we put DS on that cos it's so much cheaper. S26 $22 or Heinz $11? We chose Heinz and he didn't even seem to notice the change.

We used S26 Gold for 2 weeks and then switched to NAN (normal one) and have been using that for 10 days with no probs. S26 seemed like it was starting to constipate DS.

But really, unfortunately, it depends on each bub and trial & error. I'd recommend though, once you find one that works to stick to it!

We put our DS on Karicare Gold for about 3 weeks when he was about 2 weeks old, and like ange&Seth, it made him so constipated, so then a friend recommended Heinz Nurture, and he was on that till he was about 11 mths old, without a problem.

Us too. We use the Karicare Gold and it has been wonderful. It is Whey dominant and full of goodness such as omega 3's.

DS hasnt had any constipation or problems with it at all. :D

We have some S26 and some Karicare satchels now and will see which one he likes best. I struggled to get the S26 into him yesterday, and I was gagging, it STINKS!

We havent used the Karicare yet...I only got it tonight....does it stink too? LOL

My son is on Nan HA. He's never had any problems with it. And it doesn't stink! :D
