I suffer badly from Osteo-arthritis in my knee and until I fell pregnant I was taking a joint formula of Glucosamine and condroitin and of course had to stop once I knew I was pregnant which was 2 weeks ago. I am now sufferring badly again because the glucosamine is now getting out of my body. My doctor says take Panadol however this is not working. I did sneak in a little of Voltaren emulgel (rub) last night even though I know that it really can't be used in pregnancy however I was at the stage where I could hardly walk. Does any one suffer a similiar thing? Any suggestions?:hair:

Oh you poor thing... so much pain...

I had rheumatoid arthritis when I fell pregnant, and had no idea at the time but pregnancy often clears it up... mine has pretty much gone now, my hands and arms still ache from time to time, but it's certainly not debilitating...

I'm not much help, am I :(.

Can you take steriods for osteo arthritis?

The benefit of glucosomine sulfate in patients with osteoarthritis is likely the result of a number of effects including its anti-inflammatory activity, the stimulation of the synthesis of proteoglycans, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glucosamine#cite_note-25) and the decrease in catabolic activity of chondrocytes inhibiting the synthesis of proteolytic enzymes and other substances that contribute to damage cartilage matrix and cause death of articular chondrocytes

I have OA as well - my ob said the same thing - panadol :( But I did just want to point out that it is worth saying something to the staff where you are to give birth to your bubs. I was trying to explain to them that I couldn't put my feet up in the stirrups while I was in the middle of labour (but obviously by that stage I wasn't making much sense) and they clicked my hip out of place. :(
