View Full Version : Prenatal depression or just pregnancy hormones?
A simple question..... but it's hard for me to answer, so thought i might ask others that have experienced this or are experiencing this....
How do I know that what i'm experiencing is prenatal depression or just common pregnancy emotions? I know that your hormones can get you down at times when pregnant.. but is it normal during pregnancy to want to cry all the time, feel down and worthless? I feel like a total mess.
This is my second pregnancy. Sickness and nausea all day from day one. And i'm 14 weeks pregnant. My DD is already 2 and her pregnancy was a positive happy one. So these feelings are all so new to me.
So any advice.. is more than welcome
Thanks

Its always worth getting checked out when you feel like this - regardless of whether you are pregnant or not. It could be that you are just experienceing strong pregnancy hormones, but it could be that you are experiencing prenatal depression - feeling down and worthless does not sound like normal hormones for pregnancy... go see your gp, just talk and cry... it may be that you might need some extra support from a councellor or a therapist....
Let us know how you are feeling - it is not fun to feel like that durning pregnancy....

Anna, I feel with you. I used to be a happy person, never had depression or anything. Shortly after I got pregnant I was down all the time, cried days on end and did not want to get out of bed. Being really bad sick nearly 24/7 didne help either. I felt I was not usefull for anything. My partner did not understand what I was going through, neither did I . Untill he dragged me to the hospital and there I was diagnosed with depression due to the pregnancy.
The doctor said, that its not an uncommon thing, specially for women who are usually self sufficient and stand with both feet in life. I was told that this is probably the first time in life that I was trying to fix something and I just coudnt! How right she was.
I am taking medication now which immediately showed effect, a nice side effect is also that they stop the morning sickness! And i also see a psych every 1.5 months.
Im 20 weeks now and really happy, but have to say that something happened at work today and it got me down again, but Im not so depressed anymore.
Get yourself checked out and all the best sweetheart! Always there if you wanna chat more!:flowerz:
