View Full Version : I don't know what to do....

Peter had his first Speech Therapy appointment today.

I took today off with the intention that I can book in for fridays (my only day off work) for future appointments.

I was told today by the Speech Therapist that she is only on Tuesday to Thursday...

Now I've only been in my current job since March and have already cut my hours back to 5:30pm finish instead of 6:30pm as I wasn't getting to the station till 7:45pm every night.

I've organised today off as well as had to finish a bit early one day another week because of Peter... and now this!

My options are:

Find another speech therapist to go to on Fridays (limited due to the funding package though). Is also annoying though as DS responded well to this one and it's close to home.
Try to organise me starting an hour and a half later one day a week and have a early morning weekly session but which may mean I may have to saty till 6:30pm - 7pm at work to make up for it.
OR try to cut back to 3 days a week which money wise is a pain.

So I feel like I have no good solution

I feel stuck and so annoyed!!!

What would you do??

Any advice is welcome :)

Can you swap one of your normal working days with another, say you have Wednesday's off, but work Fridays?

What a crappy situation :( I hate it when you find something that works and a snapper is chucked in!

I would do that but then the weekends peter goes to his dads, he's gone friday night before I get home, then I wouldn't see him 3 days straight :(...plus the thursday of work before that.

So that's why I didn't put that as an option :(

Damn, there goes my plan then LOL

Is there another therapist that this current one knows of that they can refer you to?

Go for another speech therapist if you can. You'll know yourself after talking to them on the phone if you have a connection with them (and your son will have a connection because you feel comfortable). It's hairy times with employment, unless you have a very understanding employer, I wouldn't recommend pushing them too far.

:iagree::iagree:

You dont want to be pushing work with any demands in the employment sector right now so I would just see if you can find another speechie first....otherwise you may have to just go with the option you dont want to do in the short term and look for a better option in the long term.

Thanks girls... looks like i have to do more ringing on Friday.

Such a pain though as this was the only place so close to home :(

Actually, I'd go to my boss, or the person who organises the roster and talk to them about what's happening. You never know, there might be another solution that you haven't thought of.

Well I just got off the phone with a lovely lady who works for an organisation that offers speech therapy in the home...and can do fridays :D

Should get a call soon to organise peters first assessment :) I got a good vibe off this place too which is a bonus!

Feeling more positive now!
