Tomorrow nights dinner:o
I have 700g of diced steak....does anyone have a recipe for a yummy beef stew/casserole? I do not have a slow cooker:o
I know I can "throw" stuff in, but mine always end up tasting shocking!!!
I know I can google, but I would like a tried and tested recipe!!!:D
I would love a few!!
Thanks...
this is an ultra basic recipe mum has always done, and turns out a yummy, easy stew,
put the beef in a nice big pot,
add 2 litres water,
add about a cup of tomato sauce,
and 4 tablespoons worcteshire (sp!) sauce,
leave simmer for about an hour
add vegies,
simmer for about half an hour (continue to add water to cover everything)
add either gravox, or a cornflour thickener once vegies are tender.
easy as that...

brown beef and 1 diced onion
add beef stock ( or water adn a stock cube, or a packet of continental beef and red wine packet mix)
add vegies
add some herbs (worcester sauce, rosemary/basil/dried mixed herbs) and pepper
bring to boil, and simmer for about an hr
add cornflour to thicken
serve with fresh bread ... yummm

Beef and Beer is a great easy recipe
700 g beef
half a can of beer - whatever you have
1 of the big cans of beef and vege soup - not the low salt version I tried it once and it was horrible.
1 can of baby potatoes (not minted tried that too:barf:)
1 can of baby carrots
little bit of plain flour to thicken
a french bread stick - cut into 1 inch thick pieces and buttered on one side
brown the meat
chuck it all in a caserole dish (with a lid) cook for and hour at 180 degrees
take lid off pop the bread on top butter side up and pop it back in the oven for about 20 mins or until the bread goes golden
yum :chef:

Hmmmm its all too hard :o I am shocking....
I really need to get a slow cooker, so I can learn how to cook all these yummy things...
I did this one last night in the slow cooker. You could do it in a casserole dish in a 150c oven.
IT WAS AWESOME!
brown off steak and quartered onions and 3 chopped rashers of bacon in a frypan until nice and brown.
Put into a casserole dish/slow cooker with 2 handfuls of brown lentils
to the crusty bits in the frypan add 1 wine glass of red wine, 2 tbsp tomato puree, 2 tbsp flour, 1 cup of dried ****ake mushrooms, 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1/2 cup water. Bring to the boil scraping all the yummy bits off the frypan.
Pour over the steak and cook slowly until lentils are cooked meat is falling apart tender (stir several times and add extra water if necessary) 4 or 5 hours usually. I put it on at lunch to be ready for dinner.
Just before serving add lots of chopped parsley and a few herbs (I used oregano but it's just what I had). Plenty of fresh ground pepper and salt to taste.
You can use fresh mushrooms instead of the dried ****ake, but I think the ****ake is what made this tatse soooooo good. You can get dried ****ake mushrooms in the asian food section of most supermarkets these days.
you KNOW what kind of mushrooms I mean?
for some reason this silly forum has blanked them out!

I use a casserole dish most of the time for stews and cook in the oven it turns out nice and its a bit quicker than the slow cooker.
heres one of my chuck together recipes:
Roll beef in flour and brown in a saucepan with onion and season with salt and pepper then add some stock and chopped veges and bring to boil then transfer to casserole dish and put some bay leaves in and put in oven til cooked. You can use this recipe for yummy lamb shanks too and make it different by adding tomato paste or chopped tomatos and other spices.
