We have two kids - a two year old in a Safe n Sound maxi-rider and an eight month old in a regular Safe n Sound (well converted from rear ward facing recently) seat. We are thinking about having our third child in the coming year or two and are starting to question whether we can actually fit three car seats in the back seat of our Honda CRV.

It seems ridiculous to me that our car (only 3years old) seems too small! It has an excellent boot and the inside seems really spacious. The maxi-rider is a very wide seat (and so is the baby seat) but we bought it under the assumption it would suit our toddler for many years. It didn't occur to us that we would need to fit a third seat alongside it. What do people with triplets do?!

I am not keen to buy a whole new car or to sell the maxi-rider but I'm not sure what to do. I wonder whether a capsule (the plastic variety) would fit until we could move the older child into a smaller booster?

Does anyone have any suggestions?

We're going to have three kids in the back of our car come Nov. My oldest will be a couple of weeks off being 4 so she'll go in the middle in a Safe 'n' Sound Hi Liner with the H harness....it's a slim line booster seat and the safest booster on the market (even rates better than the maxi-rider once you can't use the 5 point harness anymore). It's from 14kg (which DD1 is 13.5 now) and the new laws will see that kids under 4 have to be in a car seat (not a booster) so this might not work for you if you are going to have a smaller age gap.
DD2 will be 2 years and 2 months and she'll go in the maxi rider in the drivers side.
Baby 3 will go on the passenger side in a Safe n Sound Meridian. I have to check that these three seats will fit across our car but I have a friend who has the same set up in her car and they all fit so they should.

You could try the SNS compaq for the baby, as it is meant to be quite narrow and not as long.

DA - LOL, that WAS the configuration that we were going to have...until the twins made us have to re-think the whole thing!

Now we will have 2 rearwars facing SNS meridian's and a maxi - they all 'just' fit. That's in a 2004 model commodore station wagon.
