I had Jasper by c-section nearly 5 months ago and I've noticed off and on little niggly pains, nothing significant, usually if he's bouncing on my tummy with his strong legs if he gets me right on the scar it is sensitive... but, still, nothing sigficant... nothing I'd think was unusual.

Yesterday I noticed I felt a teeny bit more tender on my scar than usual and then today I had a shower and one side of my scar really stung with the water on it - the scar looks heals, but it stung like an open cut. Then when I stepped out of the shower it stung with the cold air, and even felt sore if I shifted my weight from foot to foot.

Its by no means an unbearable pain, but is this something that I should be concerned about? Or is it just a part of the healing?

Dear Jaspers Mummy,

Thanks for your email, yes I agree it does sound unusual to be experiencing these new sensations at 5 months. As we know the incision used for c sections is quite deep and the muscles and soft tissues can take some time to fully knit back together. The scar itself can be sensitive to the touch for quite some time, however I find it unusual that one part of the scar seems tender now - even to water or cold air....

It would be worthwhile having your doctor examine the scar, I guess it is possible that you have some tethering in one section of the scar which is pulling and causing discomfort - so worth getting a clear picture of what is going on.

There are some excellent products you can use that may help the scar heal including Arnica cream that will assist healing and tissue trauma, it is very important that you do not apply this to broken skin. Blackmores does a cream called Arnica Bruising Relief and you should be able to get this from any health food shop or pharmacy.

There are also strips made of silicon that you wear over the scar that help to minimise scarring and strengthen the tissue - you can even get underwear with a silicon strip in the correct place, they are available over the net and called c panties.

But ultimately you should get an opinion from your doctor first, it sounds like your scar is just taking time to heal, but worth checking that it is not an undisolved stitch or tethering.

Wishing you all the best :flowerz:
