Just wondering if anyone here is currently studying, has studied or is thinking about studying a Diploma of Professional Counselling through the Australian Institute of Professional Counsellors?

I've just started my Diploma and would love an online study buddy!!

I thought about the course and sent away for the information but didn't follow through with it. How are you finding it? Do you have a degree already or work in the field?

I've thought about taking the course up too.

Either that or life coaching.

I've found it really good so far, very comprehensive and easy to follow, and its not 'airy-fairy' like I was afraid it might be, its quite in-depth. I'm really enjoying it! I currently work in a government job that requires me to deal with clients that usually require some form of counselling (marriages have just broken up, child custody issues, depression, low self-esteem etc) and I wanted to have the tools I would need to be able to actually help them more at the point of contact (at the moment I just transfer them to a social worker). But when I finish the course I plan on going into private practice or getting a counselling-specific position. Maybe even going on to do social work at uni? Maybe :)

I thought a good option was to base my skills by doing counselling first. Then in the future, life coaching may be a good "add-on" of skills to have.

Ladyluck - I work as a professional counsellor (currently in private practice), I have degrees in Psychology and Social Work - sorry I can't really tell you much about the Diploma course you are doing. You are right, if you enjoy the diploma and want to go further in the field, it is worth considering a uni degree and you were right, life coaching is a great add on skill. Good luck with your studies and you can PM me anytime if you need help.

HI Ladyluck
Just saw your post. Im currently completing the same course through AIPC although havent done much since DD was born. Im up to Unit 7 and would love to have a buddy as im finding it really hard to get motivated to get back into study right now. What Unit are you up to?

I've also done a Life Coaching Course through the Life Coach Academy on the Gold Coast although haven't done any work as one yet.

I'm only on the first unit - just started. And yes, definately need some motivation to get stuck into it ... I dont think its about not liking the course, I love it, but with all the housework and baby stuff to get through, its getting hard to find the time to actually sit down, concentrate and do the work.

I can't wait to finish it though

Hi guys,

I need to talk to you both. I have been doing the diploma with AIPC since my second child was born and he is now 3. I have also worked part time which has made the journey quite slow as well as studying with LIFELINE and doing volunteer work as a telephone counsellor. I have a four month old now and was planning to be studying again without the distraction of work but my bub has had and still has got numerous problems such as food intolerances ( is on a prescription formula NEOCATE) has still got colic and reflux and doesn't nap well. I have thoroughly enjoyed my study but I find it challenging because I am a people person and I have to shut myself away to study. I only wish a course like this was available for Tasmanians in the class room. The practical parts of the course were wonderful. I would recommend the Lifeline course if you are new to the diploma it really helped!

I look forward to chatting to you more as I need lots more motivation and a study buddy.

Regards Kristy:thumbsup:
