OK, now I don't know if this is a country difference in monitoring pregnant women, or if its a public/private issue but when I was pregnant in the UK I had to go to each and every ante-natal appt with a urine specimen that was tested for proteins etc at each visit.
I am now 14 weeks, going private and noone, not even the GP, has tested my urine.
Is this standard practice in Oz?
If so I'm a bit worried cos so many conditions can be overlooked and I have a history of kidney infections due to a duplex kidney.
CarolineF I know with me they didn't bother with urine tests until about 20 weeks as that is when you can start to get pre eclampsia. The urine test they do just tests for protein and I think sugar. I went public so it is probably normal practice.

Yep same here, didnt test it very often.
If you are worried though ask them to do it for you
I'm only 6 wks, but my GP got me to leave a urine sample at my very first appointment - not to test if I was pregnant, but as a general check of my urine to make sure I wasn't deficient in anything, any other problems, etc. Maybe its up to the individual GP - mine is exteremely thorough (sometimes overly, but now I'm pregnant I'm happy he's that way).

As soon as I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes I had to do a urine sample every visit to the hospital! I think it depends on your pregnancy health and the hospital/Dr procedures!
I was about.. um... 28ish weeks I think when I had high BP so they did a urine/protein test then.. and only one since (urine showed 'trace', so not much, and then my bp went down) and still showed up nothing :)
I had an OB for both my pregnancies and they both checked my urine from start to stop. Where as my younger sister is seeing an OB and has never had her urine checked. I guess it is just different procedures with different doctors.

I do shared care with Dr and midwives and the midwives check my urine sample every time I go there, which is every 6 or so weeks at this stage.
I had this with ds back in 2003 also so it must be standard practise for my Dr.
I would ask if they could do it if you are concerned about it........you are paying for the consultation!!!!

My obstetrician tested my urine at each and every visit, right from the first time I went.
