We're planning to use flats with wool and/or PUL covers for our bub and I'm feeling a bit swamped with info at the moment.

I'm still not sure about pre-folds - for those that have used them, are they easier than flats? And worth the extra cost? I'm happy to learn different folding techniques for different sized bubs, etc...so not sure about pre-folds.

Is bamboo better than cotton? I've read that bamboo doesn't wear as well..

Have also read that using a microfleece liner can add to the absorbency, especially overnight. Does that make a nappy too bulky for a newborn?

Muslin has been suggested as an alternative to terry flats for a tiny wee bub. But so far, I'm having trouble finding muslin nappies, apart from really expensive ones online. Any tips on where to buy (like regular dept stores or baby shops)?

One last thing, any tips on which are the most hard-wearing and comfortable wool and PUL covers?

A lot of questions I know ~ thanks much for any ideas you can share. I'll keep reading..there is just so much info floating around. What I really want is to hear about what works!

microfleece doesnt add to absorption it will keep bub felling dry.

flannel flats are always a good alternative in the first few weeks.
you can get them at kmart as well.

where did you hear bamboo doesnt wear as well?
i find that hard to believe.

bamboo overall is the better option though as its also naturally antibacterial, and very absorbent.

i found bamboo prefold were great in the first few days and in the hospital too.

as for covers i found the thirties pul covers to be the best. nice stretchy pul rather than crunchy pul.
and they also have gusset on them too so are great for new born pooplsions

wool covers i knitted my own and use baby beehinds wool covers too

Thanks Grace, really helpful tips. Flannel from Kmart, great, will have a look.

I really have no idea where I read that about bamboo, one of my many google searches. When I say wear well, I meant that they (apparently) don't last as long as terries. I might get some of both and see how I go...maybe use the bamboo at night.
