Ok So FINALLY AFTER Years my son has been diagnosed with AUTISM while most people would be upset Im am elated that we can finally stop going around in circles and start the healing process with him.

Our new paed gave us a form for the funding for preschoolers under 6 to organise for extra speech occupational thearpy and other stuff. Which is great.

He also has hypotonia and cannot go to the toilet due to this he is on various meds to help him go but he just cant get it out.

But Im just wondering If anyone has been able to get Careers Payment for a child with autism and other needs?? I do currently get the allowance. But have been turned down repeatedly for the PAYMENT. & if you do how did you go about it?

I am blessed that due to me not working that its not as bad as it would be if I had not given up work and looked after him but on the other hand the allowance barely covers his meds for his bowel problems as they are all out of pockeet expense.

Thanks for your help.

Basicly the child has to be sick enough or diseasled enough to live in hosspital or an institution, but in stead you stay home with them KWIM

My Dd was excepted based on the fact she is hooked up to 2 machines at any one time ( was more when we aplied) and has epilepsy is NBL and in a wheelchair, BUT we dont qualify because DH earns over 60 thousand a year

So basicly to get it your childs dr needs to state all the medical issues I notice your child has bowel issues if he has iliostomy or colonostomy or simalar he may or may not quailify, and depending on the level of his austism he may or may not would have to be very servere KWIM

Good luck with it

i have te allowance for my son but not the payment because of what Mikenzees mum has said.

he should get his own health care card and that would make his meds cheeper:yes: ask centrelink about that.

we use the payment to cover meds and a gluten free diet. but it doesnt go very far:hugs::hugs:

Sadly his meds are not covered on his health care card as they are over the counter medications. Movicol (adult) 2x a day increasing to more and Lactalose we go through a bottle of this a week. Which really sux.

Due to the hypotonia he has he cannot go to the toilet therefore they are trying to get it to (flow) through him. The poor little bugger is in so much pain from trying to go its not funny. He is still in nappies because he cannot go.

hey

just to let you know you can now get movacol on a script just ask the specialist for it can get months worth on one script

Is his issues more motility or constipation ( as in hard )if it the muscles not moving it through ( motility ) maybe talk to the GI about something that wil make the bowel move rather then just making it soft KWIM

bowel issues are tricky arent they

you can ask your dr to put movicol on a script and therefore get it on the HCC rate.
