Hi all

I have just been browsing the CSA website trying to figure out what our child support payments will be when bubs is born (currently pay child support for DH's DD), and was reading up on the reasons you can apply to have your child support payments reassessed and came across this http://www.csa.gov.au/payer/reason-9.php

Has anyone ever used this reason to apply for a change of assessment based on being a SAHM? Were you successful?

Cheers :D

We tried and no:thumbsdown:

It's the reason I went back to work when my son was 11weeks. It's the main inequality that peeves me off - my hubby's ex has never worked in her life (got pregnant within 5 weeks of knowing my hubby, 3months within emigrating from England and at 18), she has not shown a capacity to work, but I have. One of their reasons was that because she is reliant on my hubby's money, it couldn't be reduced any further (at that time it was $430 a fortnight, so not peanuts on top of what she was receiving on top of CL).

I'll be trying again in 5 weeks and see what happens.

Thanks Pegasus. It does sux doesn't it. I worked out our child support drops by $100/month when we have our bub which basically tells me that in the govt eyes DSD is worth nearly 7 times more than our child. Very unfair

Worth giving it a shot though and maybe as DSD's mum is working we might have a chance???

Good luck when you try again

I think you will find it has to be court ordered that you are a dependant on your husband to be able to claim. We could claim myself as a dependant when I was on maternity leave.

:banghead: we just tried and nope!! They do not see me as a dependent because I could go and work! and put Matilda in childcare however his ex doesnt have to...and whats more she gets paid not to and even if she did she'd have to earn over 39000 before it would decrease my DHs's support...yeh DSD and DSS in the eyes of the CSA law are entitled to more than my baby too and in their words if Andrew cannot provide a house for Matilda and me because the CS payments are so high thats our tough luck, paying rent/mortgage is not a necessary living expense above paying child support...sorry to be bearer of bad news!! plus get this her parenting payment is only reduced by something like 100 dollars so still 390 a fortnight even though she getting 10,000 a year from us...all in all she now clears including family assistance, rent assistance etc about 2000 dollars a month...wouldnt mind if any of it went on the kids...sorry here I go again :ecomcity:
