My son is 7 1/2 mths old and was a TERRIBLE sleeper during the day and ORDINARY during the night.
We had a CHN who was wonderful come out to us and it seemingly solved all of our problems (we are using CC). His day sleeps improved almost immediately and his night time took about 4 nights but also sorted itself out and he now sleeps through no problem at all.
However - lately his day sleeps have gone back to the old ways. He will not sleep any longer than about 30mins then wakes up and will not go back to sleep no matter what. If I go in he is happy & laughing so I know there is nothing wrong, I also know he is exhausted and NEEDS to sleep but he refuses.
When he is awake out of bed he is constantly cranky & just is not a happy baby at all. When he was sleeping he was a different kid. It is getting me so down & I feel like I am just not enjoying him as he is always so miserable from lack of sleep and of course I am blaming myself for not doing something(I just don't know what it is??) :(
Does anyone have any ideas??
He is not sick, he isn't hungry, he isn't teething & he is not wet or any pain when I check him so I am just completely and utterly lost as to what is going on?????

Anyone????
:detective:
Are you sure hes not sick? Maybe you could use a quick trip to the Dr. to have a quick once over?
Has something changed recently? Like your routine or something? Could he need more physical stimulation while hes awake or some more fresh air? I know my DS sleeps better if hes had a lot more physical playtime or if I take him for a play/walk outside? Or maybe hes not relaxed enough when you put him down?
Sorry I am not very useful!
oh... maybe he is overtired by the time you put him down? I know its a billion times harder to get DS to sleep when hes past it.

Definately not overtired as I have been really watching for his tired signs and he goes down straight away.
He is also really on the move a lot when he is awake as he is crawling everywhere and pulling himself up on things so is go go go when awake.
I just know that sleep promotes sleep but I can't get him to have much during the day.
If you saw him when he gets picked up and getting all of the attention you would see that he is soooo not unwell. I just can't devote all my time to him with 3 kids and a million things to do though:confused:

I am no expert but just trying to think of a few things:
are you settling him the same way dring the day as during the night?
how many sleeps is he having during the day?
Does he eat enough food- has he started any protein yet? Does he have lots of milk feeds- sometimes they can want to drink more milk rather than eat food..some disagree with me i suppose..
Can you play some music in his room to keep teh noise in his room constant so the other kids don't inadvertently wake him when they are running around outside?
Does he have darke curtains in his room?
Does he have the window closed so is not workn by noisy dogs, lawn mowers?
Sorry just trying to think of ideas...
good luck.. i know it is tiring when they don't have day sleeps..........:sleeping:

Thanks for that -
He is now 8 1/2mths and although he isn't great at sleeping still he is a little better. He has a morning sleep of about an hour and then another one of between 1 1/2 -2hr in the afternoon. He is much much happier.
Night time is great with him going from 6:30 -5:00am each day so am not too unhappy with that.
My daughters were both absolutely brilliant sleepers but am resigned to the fact that this boy of mine may be my "ordinary sleeper":(

I have read that a lot of babies who are good sleepers often go through a 'bad patch' and that is completely normal. Usually about 6-9months. I recommend a book called "baby love". Has a great section on controlled crying and heaps of info on sleep patterns. Baby Love also have a little mini book just on sleep. Worth a read.
(But I don't think you are doing anything wrong!)
