Hey girls, I was wondering if anyone uses this formula or has used it and found that it gave their baby constipation. I was told it can cause it. Im finding that Emerald will sometimes go 5 days without pooing, If I think its the formula I will change. What do you think?
Shell.
Hi Shell.
S26 causes constipation in alot of babies because of it's high iron content. I wouldn't recommend it, but if you think your DD is getting constipated, talk to your Dr or clinic nurse before you change. They may be able to suggest an alternative formula or maybe just another solution.

Hey Shell,
It could very well be the formula. That was the thing that made us change with DS1, and we found that when we did change he started to go nearly every day.
With Tamara we had heard nothing but good feed back about Heinz so we thought we would give it a try and I'm very happy with it. She goes at least once a day and she goes around 7 hours over night without a feed, sometimes longer.
I hope this has helped.

My doctor's practice nurse said "s26 is the most constipating **** on the market". She suggested Nan.
Another friend was told by nurses at the hospital she went to to try Nan.

Ok thanks. Yes, my CYH Nurse told me that s26 can give babies constipation. Guess I will have to change. Damn I just bought a new tin yesteday
If you haven't opened it yet take it back for a refund or an exchange. Or if you have opened it, see if there is anyone you know who's baby uses it so maybe you could sell it to them....just a thought.

We started DS#2 on Heinz and he got constipated pretty much straight away. I switched over to S26 as DS#1 had been on it since birth with no problems and within a couple of days I started getting "presents" and have done so ever since. I think it just depends on the child.

My bub in 9weeks and is on the S26 step 1. After all the problems I had with other formulas with my first DS constipation is minor. My DS 9wk old does get a little constipation from the high iron content, and the best thing for that is boiled and cooled water helps to soften the stool making it easier to pass. I don't have any trouble as long as i give him this water between feeds. If your bubs won't take the water at first give it to bubs when he is expecting a feed and he will suck like mad looking for the milk... then give him his bottle after a little water or as much as he will take. The other thing I have heard you can do for severe constipation (5 days is really long) is put a little brown suger in the water! I havent ever had to do it though. I'm sure there is a seperate thread for that, and have heard it works almost instantly.

errm, Griff is on S26 step 1 and he's fine... but we do baby massage a bit so that might help?? For one poo a few weeks ago, it was a little pebble, but no probs here! He does a poo usually in the morning, sometimes evening as well - seems not to mind

I avoided this formula as I heard of a lot of people having problems. I also had problems with my bub getting constipated on Nan HA. I'm now using Karicare and have never had a problem on that. Its a bit cheaper than the S26 too I think.
