Seems like a lot of time to steam them just to save a little bit of time peeling them. Wonder if you can boil them for a shorter amount of time to loosen the skin then do that and then continue to cook them the rest of the way.

Basically you cut around the potato through the skin before you cook them. He said then to steam them for an hour. After that you throw them straight into a bowl of iced water and the skin just pulls off.

I couldnt be stuffed steaming them for that amount of time saved.

I can peel em pretty quick now anyways.... if im going to steam em, ill be waiting to mash them with butter and milk. YUM!

Would you have to wait for them to cool down enough to touch them anyway? The little bleeters get pretty hot!

That's almost how I peel sweet potato to make sweet potato mash.

I guess it might work for potatoes too.

I bake the sweet potato in the oven, wrapped in foil, then unwrap, slice to a depth just under the skin down the length of the sweet potato and it just comes straight off.

Thats how my mum always peels tomatoes ...just cut a cross on the bottom of the tomato ... Heat .. then ice water .. the skin starts to peel back on its own ..

slice a 'equator' around the potato (through the skin/not too deep) then steam your potatoes for an hour or so.

When done dip in ice water and the skin kinda wipes off.

You can do the same with stone fruits but it only takes a matter of minutes with then. You literally dip it in them in the boiling water for a few second and then throw them in the cold water.

With my potatoes I peel them, chop them (slice them if I'm going to make mash) and then boil them until soft....all that takes about 30 mins at the most.

I don't know why that guy on the vid said an hour... I only steamed them for 20 mins and it worked just fine

but I would steam them for an hour if I had to... THAT'S how much I hate peeling spuds!

Yeah I thought it'd work with less time.

WHo peels spuds?

I just use a new plastic scrubber and scrub most the skin off when I clean them.
