I don't know what low grade abnormality means but didn't know you got pap smears when you were regnant they usually get you to have one when you are not pregnant. I have never had one am 32 and have just had bubs so will have one in 3 weeks time.

:hugs: it is scary to get any results other than all clear.
Whilst I haven't had a pap whilst PG I had high grade abnormalities last year that required surgery.
Just from info I have researched myself and from my docs I don't think they will do anything invasive like a colposcopy which would give you a more definite disgnosis. Not sure if they would biopsy for low grade abs.
I have heard many people have pap smears in early pg, sometimes the results can be because of cervical changes due to PG.
Don't stress too much, see what your doc has to say, I'm sure they will give you all the risks/pros of further investigation. All the best!
I had a papsmear when pregnant and it also came back abnormal and ws told to relax as due to hormoan changes its more likely to come back abnormal (not sue how true that is) but at my 6wk check after bubs born it was all clear.

I don't think they should have asked you to have a smear done while pregnant! There's not a lot you can do, it's more likely to look abnormal because of the hormonal and cervical changes. Why couldn't they have just waited 8 months instead of stressing you out?
At least it is low grade, hopefully it is totally nothing and you can relax and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy.
I had a papsmear at my 6 week post natal check up. It came back with possible abnormalities, adn I had another 6 months later. I specifically asked my GP if having only given birth 6 weeks before hand would make a difference. He said no
I went back 6 months later and was all clear. My GP said that he would recommend waiting a couple of months after giving birth because pregnancy and birth tend to change the cervix. I could have smacked him.
Good luck. I am not someone who would trust the 'abnormalities' due to pregnancy changing the cervix... but then again, I haven't had a papsmear whilst preggers. I didn't think they did them? Anyway, good luck.

i have been told by all 3 different ppl who treated me during my pregnancies that doing a pap smear while pg wasnt good.
if they did find anything then it could be from pg and they cant do it properly because there is a bub and its not entirely safe- this is what i was told
Try not stress, it's not good for you or bub and there nothing you can do for now. Make sure you ask the risks to baby before you have tests. I say this because i miscarried from the pap smear itself. ( it is a very low risk). As the other ladies have said it could just the changes due to the pregnancy. Talk to doctors, asks all the questions you have even the so called silly ones.

I had a smear when I was 9 weeks pregnant, but my results came back normal.
I just wanted to let you know it isn't uncommon to have papsmears whilst pregnant.
I hope your results are nothing to worry about OP.
I was diagnosed with a low grade cervical abnormality (CIN I) last year from a pap I had after DD was born. They only wanted to follow up a year later but I fell pregnant with DS in the interim so they did another pap after he was born. This also showed abnormal cells so they did a colposcopy which showed it had progressed to CIN 2. Apparently this is quite common during and shortly after pregnancy due to the hormonal fluctuations and goings on with the cervix.
If it is only low grade, you will probably find they will just organise you to have either another pap or colposcopy after bub is born and keep an eye on you in between. Most cervical changes are apparently slow in nature and caregivers usually prefer to just monitor and treat only after a succesive abnormal test.
My CIN2 disappeared completely in December (without treatment) so hopefully yours does the same. :fingerscrossed:

My GP also wanted me to have a pap smear in early pregnancy but i refused. When i talked to a different GP they agreed that I shouldn't. I really think it depends on the GP and it isn't black and white.
I was also told by a women's health nurse who specialises in pap smears to wait 3 months after the birth or else you do have increased chance of abnormal results.
:fingerscrossed: yours just came up abnormal because you are preggas!!

Last year at my sons 6 week check up they did a pap smear it came up with abnormal cells on my cervix ... I wasnt pregnant at the time... mine were not low grade they were High grade...
Usually they send you to see a doctor who works with that and I had a sample taken which came back that it was High grade... I then had a camera like thing put inside to see where the abnormal cells were and then in July 21st of last year had a letz operation done... The operation wasnt to bad but I am unsure if they do that if its low grade... needless to say I was very scared and was told I wouldnt fall pregnant easy , I found out i was pregnant a month later.....
But to be honest its nothing to be to worried about but I dont think they will do much being pregnant but its better to get it all checked out to be safe for your health.... my fear was that I would have cancer ect.

I had a pap smear done a few yrs ago and had CIN2 changes. I had a colposcopy and then had to have a loop diatherm of my cervix. This is when they cut of a small portion of the bottom of your cervix to remove the abnormal cells.
It was day surgery under general anasthetic, it wasn't really that bad, but I found it quite traumatic at the time, I was only 23 and hadn't had any babies yet so was quite stressed about it.
My specialist was very clear in telling me it would not affect my ability to have children and so far so good, I have fallen pregnant twice first go. However it can effect your cervix' ability to go into labour due to the scar tissue on your cervix.
If I were you I would get perhaps 2 or more opinions and then make an informed decision. Good luck, I hope all goes well for you.
