I had my DS weighed today and in the four week period he has only put on 100g and has not grown in length. I have to go back in a fortnight, the midwife said not to worry it sometimes happens with active babies BUT I am worried :( He weights 6.1kg and is 62.5cm long and is 6 months next week. I am only 5"1 and DH 5"6 so we are not huge or anything. DS is having 2 lots of solids a day, sometimes he eats it all other times he doesn't. He is also b/f apart from the solid meals where I give him formula in a cup, he only drinks about 50ml though. He is b/f well though.

Has anyone else bub had a slow down in growth and weight at anytime? maybe it is just normal but if in a fortnight it doesn't changed I will be very worried.

Hello,

I wouldn't worry. Babies are all different.

My daughters growth slowed at about 5 months, and she only grew 1cm and put on 200g. She is very very active so I figured she was burning it all through movement. Plus, she sleeps well and is very happy!

Some babies have a HUGE spurt one month (at 3 months DD was 62cms long and 4 months was 67cms!) and a quiet one the next.

As long as bubs is happy, I wouldn't worry too much.

I hope this helps!

Debster,

I was really worried about my son being so small I was getting him weighed every month, and then from 7 to 8 months the growth line went sideways  . He is a breastfed baby who is otherwise healthy and active. If his height measurements are to be believed in the same time period he shrunk 4 centimetres (pretty sure that the nurse stuffed one of them up). The growth charts are geared to bottle fed babies and breastfed babies have a slowing of growth. I plotted my son on a breastfed baby chart and he has maintained his percentile. :smiliedance: .
The chart is here:

all thanks to tanni_83 who found it for me.

good luck and I hope that it is all fine.

Don't stress too much. My DS went from being in the top 95th percentile to being below the bottom line. He's around the 5% mark now. As long as the do gain, even if it is slowly, they will be ok.:)

Debster I have spent 10 months worrying myself about Luka's weight gain and growth, and have resolved not to do so any more.

Luka is almost 11 months and has only just hit 7 kilos... I am asked at least once a week if he was a premmie baby when people find out how old he is. He was actually overcooked  .

The CHN had me take him to the doc for his milestones (she said he was behind) and for his growth (CHN suggested bone growth problems  ). I took him to a specialist who said he was marvellous in his fine motor skills, and average in his gross. The nurse there at the time had a little giggle at the thought of him being behind  .

As for his growth, we have done the wee test (for my peace of mind), and it was fine. I am just tiny (159cm, 48 kilos) and DP is not huge (but a leetle porky  ). My parents are tiny, my grandparents tiny, in fact we are all tiny people breeding more tiny people.

If you are worried, take him to a paeditrician for peace of mind. Once you have the advice of an experienced professional, you can relax and enjoy your lovely bubba.

thanx, I think I will not worry until I get him weighed again the next fortnight. At least I am getting plenty of wear out of size 000!!

DS2 only put on 2 kg's in 6 months, the doctors were worried and sent us for all sorts of tests but in the end he was fine, i think they were only worried cause he was so big at birth (10lbs, 4 oz) but he never whinged, was a happy kid and ate every meal you gave to him. I went to pediatricians and everything, i wasn't too worried though and now he is 18 months old and only 2 kg's lighter than DS1 who is almost 3.

ok ... so my boy was pretty big at birth (5.94kg), but he didn't gain weight like he was expected to. He only doubled his birthweight at 25 months and at 3y4mo now he is only just 15kg and yet he is approx 105cm tall!

I look at the child and see if they are happy, healthy, active, eating well and gaining ... even if it is only 100g in a month!

I haven't bothered having my kids weighed regularly ... I usually find out thier weight only if they are taking to the emergency room for something!

It sounds like there is nothing wrong with your little one and that you are doing a fantastic job as a Mum ... keep it up and be encouraged!
