Hi all,

Tayla is now 5.5 months and she has been going through a phase where we think she is bored with everything! She will last about 20 minutes in her rocker chair and then when you put her on her play mat with hanging mobile stuff she gets cranky and cries and if you put her in your lap she cries and about the only thing that keeps her entertained is supporting her while she tries to stand and look around.

We think it could be a teething thing as she has been so grumpy lately and has not had more than 20 - 30 minute naps during the day and her cheeks are really rosy and she is dribbling alot and putting everything in her face (including trying to suck on my chin!).

Has anyone else experienced this kind of behaviour? The only bonus is that the past 4 nights she has been sleeping from 7pm until 7am but we think this is because we leave the oil heater on as it has been cold.

Hi Taylasmum

My dd is 8 months old and is doing the same thing. She gets grumpy very quickly and whatever you try and do to cheer her up she get grumpy. She also has very rosey cheeks, dribbles and puts whatever she can into her mouth. I bought her some teething rusks and she seems to enjoy these for a little while until she gets bored with it. I have rubbed some bonjella (SP?) on her gums and that seemed to make her much happier. But if she really gets upset I have given her some baby panadol and after a nap she is much happier again. So I have come to realise it must be her teeth coming through as I can feel a lump on her gums.

My dd has been sleeping 12 hours a night for the past 3 to 4 months which is such a god send.

My daughter was born 10 weeks early so that is why she is only teething now at 8 months when her corrected age is the same as your baby.

Hi Taylasmum

I enjoy reading your threads as Max is a similar age. I often have similar issues as you too, so it's good to know that some of these things are 'normal'.

I think Max has teeth on the way too, and we've have quite a few sleepless nights lately. (Which is why I've showered, had breakfast, got hubby off to work, cleaned the kitchen, checked my emails and am now reading bubhub posts and its only 7.30am) I'll see if he has any lumps on his gums today.

Both my kids went through the same thing at this age, just before they were able to crawl the would get very grumpy and frustrated. I just put it down to them wanting to move around and get involved with everything but their bodies were not yet able. When they start crawling I found this stage passed.

Yes tayla get's so frustrated when she can't sit up or crawl around. I have bought her a jolly jumper and she loves it as she thinks she is standing up by herself and can spin around and look at things. So that should keep her happy for a few days at least! :D
