hello,
my name is nic, i am 24 and have been with my partner jen for 7 years now. she has 2 daughters and we also have foster children.
we have been planning to have a child for 4 years now.
we have tried AI before (about 2 years ago) and it was not a success. i have been tracking my cycles for 4 years aswell so i know it off by heart. :yelclap:

we are going to try again next month with a close friend. he is not exactly a spring chicken, but he is a lovely man.

so my questions are...
best position to inseminate?
should the semen be ummm deposited around the surface of the cervix or try to get it just inside of cervix? (have heard of being deposited inside of cervix being more of a success)

mood setting?
what equipment did you use?

i think thats it at the moment. i have been doing so much reserch over the years, but have never got first hand infomation.

any help will be great

HI

Goodluck for round two!!!

i would definitely get the book 'The new essential guide to lesbian conception' ... a winner and gives details on the actual insemination.

We use a sterile urine sample container for the 'sample' and a 5ml needless syringe both of which we purchase at the chemist.

On your back with butt on a pillow is the best position. Stay there for 15 mins then turn on one side for 5min then the stomach for 5min then the other side for 5 min then back on your back for as long as possible. Best is you turn to the side you think you ovulated from first. ( i can never tell though)

Get the sample "in" as soon as possible and O (the great type) before hand (up to 15mins beforehand)

Best to push the syringe in as far as it will go and then gently (very gently) depress the plunger so that it is deposited in and none comes out. Then gently pull the syringe out.

Apparently if you have good cervical mucus it will 'pull' the little swimmers up into your cervix. Not a great idea to try and get it in the cervix as it isn't comfortable and can damage... leave that up to the professionals.

I'm trying pre-seed this month as my mucus isn't great and we haven't fallen pregnant yet.. :(

I got most of the information from the book but a HEAP off the net as well. We tried a few different ways before we started doing it like this. I hope it works for us soon... and that you are one of the lucky ones to get it to work straight away!!

Actually a question for SHELLKIZ!!! Is this the way that you did it? She was one of the lucky ones!!!

Well good luck! :goodvibes:

My only advice is to RELAX! I know easy to say almost impossible to do.

Just try and be relaxed during the process to keep all the little swimmers inside for as long as possible.

If you want step by step instructions PM me, i can tell you what we do... :p

hi the donor we have sent these test results. can anyone tell me if this iss normal results

total number was 142 million
Concentration 71
Motile 61
Rapid 85
Sluggish 15

(I think these numbers are %ages)

only reading outside the normal range was the %age of abnormal sperm, which was 89 when the normal should be 85 or below. But the doctor said that was nothing to worry about. The reason she referred me for the second test was the pathology guys found evidence of ‘agglutination’ which is clumping, and they wanted to test for sperm antibodies. I gave the ok for that but those results won’t be in till next week. However the gp told me that since the motility was good, the agglutination was probably nothing to worry about.

std tests (syphillis, hep b. hep c and hiv) were all negative.

he has printout and will be faxing them to us.

For at home donor inseminations.

*Give the donor the spare room to use not the bathroom !

Donor

*Abstain from orgasm for one week prior.
*Drink plenty of water and maintain hydration.
*Abstain from alcohol and other drugs one week prior.
*Wear loose clothing especially if the weather is hot.
* Preferably collect the sample in the same location as the insemintion.
* Collect sample into container, knock on door of couple gently and hand sample through the door quietly. Go about your business and leave locking the door on your way out !

Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou

Inseminator / Partner

*Prepare the room (this can be as little as drawing the curtains to going the whole hog with candles music etc. have tissues handy)
*Ensure the donation room is stocked
ie : tissues, collection container ( urine jar from chemist most commonly used ), magazines if your donor requests them.
*Get hot and heavy with your partner /inseminee.
*Go to door when donor knocks to hand over specimen.
*Draw up specimen(practice with a spare syringe in the days beforehand ). Carefully and slowly push syringe into vagina as far as you can aiming it a little downwards towards the spine.
*Gently and slowly push the plunger in while holding the syringe in place.Count to 10 , slowly remove the syringe and bin it.
*Help her achieve orgasm
*Insensitive types head for a smoke about now, but stay and chat/ snuggle with your partner, get her a drink or whatever, if you re going to leave her there on her own make sure she has everything she needs like a book to read.

Inseminee.

*Know your cycle, work out when you are ovulating.
*Go to toilet before starting (nothing worse than getting into something so important and needing to pee)
*Get undressed
*Lay on your back with hips/butt elevated on pillows.
*Get hot and heavy with your partner preferably get naturally wet !
*Guide your partner with the syringe. Lay still !
*After the deposit is made stay on your pillows and achieve orgasm with or without help.
*Stay in bed for at least 20 -30 mins afterwards
*Visualise the sperm entering the cervix, swimming across it and entering the fallopian tubes.
*Visualise the egg releasing from the ovaries, travelling down the fallopian tubes, See the sperm racing to meet the egg, penetrating it and fertilizing it.
*Visualise the embryo travelling down the fallopian tubes into the uterus, and implanting.
*look for pictures/information on conception so you know what is happening inside you. It's easier to imagine /visualise it then.
*After 30 mins getup and take it easy for a while.

The more relaxed and laid back the experience can be for everyone the better your chances.

This method actually has a higher success rate than clinic AI.

Of course there is much involved before getting to the point of insemination, but that's a whole lot of other posts LOL ! :fingerscrossed:
