Hi everyone,

Just wondering what the best thing to do to ease teething pain is

MJ is only 7.5 weeks old and her first tooth has just appeared  We had no warnings at all. She has been a little upset lately but then again, we did have her 8 week needles on Wednesday. I guess i'm lucky that they hit at the same time but just want to know what I can do to ease her discomfort.

Also, would it help if i go out and get a toothbrush to massage her gums?

Thanks. Can't believe how quicky they grow :)

bit of a dilemma with such a young bub as you can't use teething gels yet and i would imagine teething rings would also be out of the question too. my suggestion would be to wet a flannel with cool water and wrap it around your finger and let bub have a good old chew on that. not sure if you know but once the tooth cuts through bub should be pain free unless of course there is another one on the way!

You poor poor thing - I sympathise

Might I suggest earplugs for you - mine is cutting his top teeth at the moment and I've had a headache for the last week from all the grizzling!

The cool flannel works really well so I'll second that suggestion and I guess lots of hugs which I'm sure you are giving anyway due to bubs age.

I use baby paracetemol when it seems to be extreme pain

Good luck

I agree you poor thing.

Ms Jessica had no problems with her first two teeth didn't even realise she was teething until we saw the two white bumps that had already cut through the gum. She now has 4 teeth on the bottom fully out but has three more teeth on the top that has just broke through the gum and another that has nearly broken the gum too  . She is 8 1/2 months old and for her 8 month birthday to herself her 3 teeth broke through. She was very cranky and constantly rubbing her gums.

My suggestion is that my bubs hardly ever uses a dummy but I give her one and she loves chewing on the plastic around the dummy it is safe as i sterilise every night. I also use gauze dipped in some water (I buy a pkt of about 100 small squares of gauze 5 cm squared) and just gently rub her gums. Due to her being so young the first time she will hate it but after that she will willingly open her mouth. I have been doing it from the start of her teething and she sees me coming and opens her mouth. I do it just before I put her to bed

I think that you should talk to your Dr about teething gel. My boys both cut their teeth early, Angus was 15 weeks and Caleb was 14 weeks. We were told by the Dr that we could use teething gel as long as you only use it a little at a time.
Good luck and let us know how you go.

My DD is 9 months and has just got her first tooth. She love chewing anything and everything. But the thing she likes the best is a teething ring which you put in the fridge to get cold. Another thing is when she is in the bath she loves chewing on a wet washer. But if she is really grumpy and upset we give her some panadol and after that she is as happy as can be.
