hi there
I am 27 weeks now and for the last month have had problems with a pain in my side whenever I sit down. After about 10 minutes sitting -any chair any position any posture - I start to get a stitch like pain under my right breast (front and back) Its becoming so hard to put up with as I cant sit on the train to work, sit out for dinner or anything, its not agonising but does get quite sore. Its making me miserable and I wonder if its normal, I mentioned it on my last checkup but felt a bit brushed off that i need to just suck it up but thought I would ask you.
thanks

Dear Sharynx,

Very frustrating to feel that your concerns are not being properly addressed. It sounds like this is becoming increasingly more debilitating and is no doubt effecting your everyday life.

I would certainly go back to your doctor and bring this issue up again - remember the squeaky wheel gets the oil!

There are a myriad of reasons that you could be getting a stitch around your right side. The most obvious could be that as your baby grows he is putting pressure in that area. Do you know which position the baby is lying in? Rest assured that if this is the case as your baby drops lower in the pelvis this will be relieved.

You may also have a slightly subluxed rib that is causing you pain that radiates around the one side, if so a good physiotherapist or may be able to help with direct treatment and by reccomending stretches to help keep the area supple. When you're in pain you automatically lock up which just makes things worse.

A good massage from a qualified remedial therapist will help ease tight muscles around your rib cage and provide temporary relief.

Talk to your doctor again and ask if he can refer you to someone who can help you.

All the very best,

Tania :)
