View Full Version : Advice on an Aussie moving to Germany with husband's work (+ 4 kids)
Hello
There is a strong possibility that we will be moving to Germany (Munich) with my husband's work in the next year. We have 4 small children, ages between nearly 2 and 6.
My eldest son has a speech disorder, but is fine in all other regards.
Can any of you give me some advice on how expensive it is to live in Germany, what the health system is like and the education system? Plus any other tips you can think of.
Thanks so much
Oooooh how exciting! :yes::yes:
Cannot help you with the questions though!
HI,
I am from Germany and now live here. I must say the german health systhem is much better than the australian one, you pay for health insurance straight out of the wages and your employer has to pay part of it too. This is what most of the people do, there is a kind of private health insurance but thats not for everyone, and itīs different to what you call privat incurance here.
The school system is great too, kids go to kindergarden (which is more like childcare) from 3-6 years and the go to primaryschool from 6 years ( Grade 1-4) then on to secondary school which would either be from grade 5-9, 5-10 or 5-13 ( after grade 13 you can study) after grade 9 and 10 there is certain trades that do apprentice ships or you can become a kindergarden teacher etc...
I hope i helped you, let me know if you have more questions

Hi bgbgbb,
I am from Germany (just moved to Brisbane two weeks ago and will stay in Australia for 6 months). I have lived in Munich for 6 years and have several friends still living there. Munich is a great city!
I agree to what IsaRob said about health and school system. If you have any other questions let me know. Would be pleased to help.
CU, Diana
