Can anyone help me as to what signs or when you are suppose to toilet train. I am not one to read books I prefer to hear from others. My daughter is 16months. (1st and only child)
A child needs to be able to communicate that they need to go.
They may go at the same time every day.
It is also easier toilet training in the warmer months-cos fewer clothes:)

My son is 2 and a half and i am still attempting to toilet train him, in the warmer months he was great, he would go sit on the potty/toilet even though he wouldnt go he would at least sit there, one day he wet him self in the middle of the kitchen and ever since it has been a huge fight to get him to go back to at least sitting on the toilet (think he was embarrassed).

MY ds was tt during the day for about two months (from 20-22mths old) but this last month his been ill and had a long bout of gastro so his back in nappis again full time.
Im not worried about it, I will slowly re introduce him to it once he is 110% healthy:)
My ds started showing signs he was ready at about 16mths of age but I didnt feel ready to start so didnt. He was pointing to his nappy and saying poo before the event iykwim, then squating in a corner and doing it.
He did this for a while then started doing it for wees as well.
He was very good at home but day care was a different story, he never told them when he wanted to go. While at home he had free rein of the toilet so could go whenever he wanted, so it was easier for him.

Around 20 months, If she urinates a lot at one time, and stays dry for hours inbetween, and she seems to indicate that she is aware that she is or has urinated.
I would suggest if you can still get it a book called, Toilet Training in Less than a Day by Drs Azrin and Foxx. It really does work:fingerscrossed:
Remember make it a happy time.

I'd wait until your child decides that they don't want to wear nappies anymore. My oldest son was forced by me, but I had no choice as he was too big for cloth nappies and too big for disposables (he had no verbal skills by this age). He turned 3 in September, and in December I knew I had no choice. I sat him on the potty (which he was too big for) and told him he wasn't moving until he had done a wee. He sat there for almost an hour, but when he went he filled it right to the top. He was in undies from that minute onwards, with NO accidents. I didn't want to do it, but I had no choice other than to use bath towels as nappies.
With my daughter, she decided about 2-3wks after her 3rd birthday that she didn't want to be wearing nappies. And she didn't, no accidents from her either.
With Matthew, I will have to do something about him this coming summer. He is the same size his brother was at the same age, so will be outgrowing nappies shortly. He has a very good vocabulary, so he will be able to tell me when he needs to go.
Let your child be the guide.
I toilet trained DS at about 2.5yrs. He wasn't really doing anything to indicate he was ready, it was more the fact that DD was due soon and I didn't want to have 2 in nappies full time.
DS was definatly ready at that age tho coz after the first couple of days, where we had one accident a day, he has been fine. I used undies at home and pull-ups when we went out (he called them his 'going out undies'). I only had to buy one packet of pull-ups and he has worn normal undies ever since.
He stopped wearing nappies at night about a week after his sister was born and has only wet his bed a couple of times...DD is 7mths.
I'd wait until both you and bub are ready to try toilet training. You could start now by putting her on the potty when she wakes up from sleeps, to get her used to the idea, but it definatly easier in the summer. DS slept nude all summer, it was easier than him waking me up to help him go to the toilet, I just left the light on and he took himself.
