On the off chance that somebody has already solved this dilemma:

I am really missing seeing plays, opera etc since having DS. Does anyone have a solution to this? I can only think of maybe trying to get to an Opera in the Park thingo.

(DS would remain with us, I am breastfeeding, so no babysitting etc).

a babysitter? that would be the obvious answer if i wanted to do those things.

good luck i hope you figure it out..

I gave up on imagining I could have any cultural experiences years ago..

i guess there is the multicultural festival once a year.

It may be hard to see opera or plays at the moment if your baby is still fairly little and reliant on breastfeeding. But don't despair. You can still do other cultural stuff.
Art galleries are still very accessible - and actually when my daughter was 4 mths she really liked the exhibitions... all the people and colours and shapes. Now she is 1 she still loves to go!
Look for art in the outdoors - a play or opera in the park where you can spread a rug and take your own food would be do-able... but they might be stopping now autumn is coming...
Otherwise, I would go the babysitter route (what about parents?) if you are really needing a fix.
