Jasper is 7 weeks today, and it seems to have coincided with CD1 of my first period.

bleh--i hate AF, least now i spose i can wear a tampon, and not a pad the size of a small country :p

just wondering if this is "normal" to have af back so quick after birth??

i am breastfeeding and just started taking the minipill (about 7 days ago)

any help appreciated! Thanks :)

With T I got it back dead on 6 weeks... not even a week after the PP bleeding stopped  I was bottlefeeding though.

This time nothing.... but I'm having the pains like they are coming... have been for 2 and a bit weeks now but nothing.

Gosh that sucks for you :hugs:

I can't remember for DD1, but I was bottle feeding, so it was probably fairly quick. DS1 and DD2 were booby fed [12 + 14 mths] and both times AF returned when they were around 6 / 7mths, usually when they started eating proper food a couple of times a day.

Maybe it's because you started on the minipill?? [I have no idea, just a thought!!] I've been hesitating using hormone based contraception for this reason. Haven't gotten round to asking a DR if this could happen though.

Just a quick question about the minipill : Have you noticed if it's affected your milk in any way? I really need to use something whilst we decide if DH will get a vasectomy, but can't decide what to use and minipill seems to be the least permanent while we make up our minds :o

Hi Jade
I thought that the minipill might have had something to do with it..i might ask when i go to the docs for my checkup. it is really light flow so it might just be a breakthru bleed or something

in regards to milk supply, i havent noticed any difference..its remained the same, and bubs hasnt been any fussier or anything.
its quite cheap too, if you have healthcare card and medicare card it works out to be about $5.30 per box  (full cost is $16.85) for 4 months supply.
im just reading the info leaflet and it says that "microlut does not appear to affect quantity or quality of breastmilk, however minute amounts of the active substance are excreted into the breastmilk. very rarely, adverse effects on the child have been reported, such as yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice)'
i havent noticed this in jasper at all
hope this helps! :)

I got some bleeding when i started the minipill both times. It didn't last very long.

And I stopped breastfeeding at around 2 months and now, at 3 months I have just got my first AF. I breastfed DD and got AF at 4 months with her.

Isabelle is 11 weeks old and i havent got mine back yet im still fully breastfeeding and not taking any contraceptives as i had my tubes tied:yelclap:

I would deffinately assume that the mini pill would still do the same sort of thing as the normal pill i.e regulate your periods

that said ive never used to so im not 100% sure

Thanks Mel :)
I think I'm just going to have to use it for now as DH is already being great at "forgetting" contraception - even though he's more adamant than me that he doesn't want anymore kids :shame:

I just started mine today - and my little one will be 6 weeks on Friday - I got it at exactly 6 weeks with my first as well despite BF full time - oh well.

Hi Mel,

I got mine back at 8 weeks with DS and was fully breastfeeding, with no other contraception. With O, she is nearly 10 weeks and have not yet had anything, still on no contraception. I remember asking my GP about it with DS, and she said it was completely normal...said I was extra fertile :)

my came back yesterday :( miss E is 7 weeks today. It seemed to coincide with breast-refusal (apparently the tast may change duringa period) and supply issues, resulting in a very unhappy bubba and a mummy in and emotional mess on the floor. :o

apparently as soon as you go longer than 6 hours between feeding your body kick-starts the reproductive system, which makes sense, my first 7.5 hour sleep was about 2 weeks ago. so i guess its a positive thing that i'm getting sleep, but i would have liked a longer break from AF (and the realted hormone swings etc)

I started the combined pill nearly a month ago. The first week was normal and then my second week on the pill I started bleeding. This week I went into the red section and I was still bleeding. I finally stopped bleeding today. I had been bleeding for two and a half weeks.

I asked the Dr about on Tuesday during my six week check up and she said that it was normal and that I would stop bleeding when I start taking the pills out of the red section.

She said that the bleeding was normal as it was my body and the pill arguing with each other (as the pill dominates when your period is). She said that it usually does this on the first pill packet after having a baby and that I should be back to normal next month.

Just to throw in my experience - with dd I got my AF at about 4 months, and she had slept through from the day we came back from hospital, and I bf-ed her til she was 20 months old. So, the sleep thing isn't the case for everyone, as I was getting my standard 8 hours practically the whole time. And for the record this hasn't happened with Toby!! He's a "keep 'em guessing" boy when it comes to his feeding, but to cut him some slack he's only 4 weeks old!
