Hi Everyone,

I am a new expectant mum to this site and was wondering if anyone has had a similar experience to me...

This is my first pregnancy - which I had confirmed by blood test on Saturday, after the doctor not being sure with the urine test. The blood test came back 0 - 2 , which was not explained to me (so any explanation on that would be useful). On Sunday I woke up and had slight bleeding, brownish colour and am still bleeding today (wednesday). No real pain, only slight cramping, but felt very sick and had a bad headache. Today I feel normal, no headache, no feeling sick, I feel fine but still bleeding.

I went back to the doctor on Monday who sent me immediately for an ultrasound and internal examination. I was told there that I should only be 5 weeks pregnant and that the ultrasound normally doesn't show anything until 6 weeks. Neither test showed anything and I was reassured that this did not mean that I had had a miscarriage, that it may just be too early to know what is going on. I called the doctor after returning home and she siad that if I still "feel pregnant" in 7 - 10 days I can be sent for another ultrasound. I asked to be referred to an obstetrician and was told that there was no need at this stage.

Im unsure of what is going on and what I should be feeling now. I went and bought another pregnancy test from the chemist and did that, it still came up with the two lines. My husband said that the tsts can only confirm any Hcg hormone in my system and not necessarily to re confirm that I am still pregnant.

I am confused and feel as though I should have been told more or followed up by the doctor a bit better. My husband has been extremely supportive and has suggested that I continue on eating well etc and we will see how things turn out.

Has anyone had any similar experiences or can give me any advice?

Sorry for the long post too :)

Thanks in advance

Hi There !

I dont want to scare you but i want to tell you about my miscarriage experience. Only difference is i was 9 weeks (so i thought) which turned out to be 14 ! Anywais - My miscarriage started with bleeding like a period but was brownish then turned to bright red ! I had extreme cramping that was so sore i just knew there was no hope and an ultrasound confirmed this.

I posted on here when i was bleeding - and a lot of women on here had huge bleeds in early pregnancy and they have healthy babies today !!

Just stay positive and i would say follow docs advise - But maybe if yopur really worried try another doctor ? I would say if theres no major cramping then bubs is fine !!

Let us know how you go - -:fingerscrossed: all is okay and bubs is a sticker !!

Positive vibes coming your way !! - Kayte !!

Hi eagerly-awaiting,
I have had a similar experience to you twice. I had a bleed with slight cramping with my DS and also with this pregnancy (currently 24wks) both at around 5 weeks. I was sent for an u/s with DS but not with this one. I was told that it is most probably an implantation bleed. Some women have a small bleed when there next AF would of been due. My bleeding was brownish sometimes red with slight cramping. It is scary but just remember that bleeding doesnt always end in m/c.
Goodluck and just take things easy as much as possible.
Heaps of sticky baby dust coming your way.

Hi eagerly awaiting
Normally the bleeding wouldn't be cause for too much concern at this stage, as others have said it can be quite common and not necessarily indicate that something is wrong.
What worries me about your post is the HCG level on your blood test. Anything less than 5 is not usually considered a positive, and 2 is very, very low even for 5 weeks.
I had a blighted ovum last year (egg fertilised and failed to develop further) and even with that my HCG was at 33 a few days after my period was due.
Combined with the fact you've started to bleed I'm not sure this one will stick :( It sounds very much to me like it might be a chemical pregnancy (ie. very, very early miscarriage around the time your period is due).
Your hubby is right, the pregnancy test will pick up any residual HCG in your system whether the baby is alive or not. Most times HPT's will continue to show positive for up to several weeks after a miscarriage until your levels fall back to zero.
I really hope I am wrong hon. Just sharing what I know.
Take care.

I know it is extremely hard- but worrying at this time will only mke it harder. I experienced bleeding at 9wks with my frst pregnancy and went on to have a miscarriage( this was because i ws on extremely powereful pain killers and anti inflmation drugs becuse of a previous injury) 5mths later i fell pregnant agin- Not taken drugs since the first miscarriage, and experienced bleeding at 8 wks. Went to GP who told me i was having another miscarriage and basically wanted to send me home to deal with it. I insisted on having n ultrasound- where i found out i wasn't having miscarriage and that bub's was fine- They could show me where the bleeding was coming from- I chaged Gp's straight away - and saw an ob. That being said - i went on to bleed for the first 4mths for about 2 days every month.

Take it easy. Listen to your partner and just rest. I wish you all the best.

Anna

Thanks Everyone

I guess its hard to stop stressing when you are unsure of what is going on in your body... I am one of those "need to know now" type people too.

I feel reassured that others have had similar experiences to me but Im also not going to get my hopes up (well... I say that but deep down I already have):fingerscrossed:

I think I will see how things go and next week find a different GP to go to and request another ultrasound and hopefully they might be able to see something. I have also been told that I can ask to have a blood test to see if my HCG levels have increased. I have been thinking and reading up - after Emmylou's comment about levels under 5 not being positive... maybe they were telling me something else - surely 2 doctors cant get that wrong - I spoke to one doctor when I called on the sat for the blood test and he told me it was positive but very early, then when I went in on Monday and saw the second doctor that is when she said positive 0 - 2. Is there something else they might mean?

Sorry Im a novice to this whole preg thing, I don't really understand much of the terminology yet!

Thanks again for all the support, I look forward to being able to post some happy stories with you all!!

I experienced brown discharge from about 4 weeks, which developed into red bleeding by about 4 1/2 weeks (but with no cramping or pain). Like the post above, I went to my GP who told me I was probably having an early miscarriage. He told me to go home and just wait for it to happen. I was extremely distraught (having waited 10 months to fall pregnant), but shortly after, the red bleeding stopped, although the brown discharge remained for a few more days. I'm now a bit over 6 weeks and things seem OK. I haven't had my ultrasound yet (next week!), so I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much. But like you, I've read lots of stories about women who have early pregnancy bleeding and go on to have normal pregnancies.

Hi Everyone,

I just thought I would give you all an update on how things have progressed... also if you are having a similar experience to me it may reassure you to read this...

Went and had my second Ultrasound today, after the bleeding finally subsided (10 days) and this time I actually got to see my little bunch of cells with a fluttering heartbeat!!!!!!! All is alive and well!!!:smiliedance:

I have had a second blood test to check my HCG levels etc and should get that all back early next week. I have had it all cleared up now too - I was originally told HCG was 0 -2 which I did not understand... then freaked out as under 5 shouldn't be positive etc etc The HCG level on the first blood test was 136 indicating 0 - 2 weeks after conception... but hey do you think the GP bothered to explain that to little ol first time mum to be me!!!

Anyway really excited now. Thanks for the support with previous posts! :)

wow good for you, i had a massive bleed at 11 1/2 weeks, it was so scary and suprising seeing bub just kicking away like nothing had happened,

are you going to be monitered and get some more scans.

do they know the reason behind the bleed

I have asked to be referred to an Ob to follow up - Am seeing my GP again Monday so I will be armed with many questions.

I would like to request another scan in about 3 weeks - so at 9 weeks but I will just have to be guided by what the Ob/GP tells me... although if I had my way i 'd be in there every week "just to check"

I thought i would share my experience as I have had 2 miscarriages now.... with my 2nd pregnancy i had a ultrasound at 5 weeks and saw a sac i also was bleeding from brown to red.... the sac had no fetal pole or yolk which the doctor said meant it could of been to early at 6 weeks i went back and had another ultrasound and it hadnt changed they called it a blotal clast pregnancy i then passed it at week 7.

I am now pregnant again 11 weeks I had a ultrasound at 6 weeks just to make sure the pregnancy was viable and saw a sac with a baby in the heartbeat was 150 and the sac had a nice dark glow around it which the doctor said was very good meant it was in deep.

good luck every ones different and i hope this helps :)

Hi
I experienced bleeding between week 6 and 7. The first time it was a gush of blood suddenly whilst i was in bed. I had an ultrasound the next day which showed I had identical twins and there heartbeat was shown. The next day I had bleeding for about four hours not very heavy and brownish. The a few days later I had a lower backache all day then heavy bleeding(like my heaviest day of period) for 5-6 hours. I was thought for sure that they were gone. I had another ultrasound and all was ok I am now 15 weeks and have not experienced any more bleeding. I wanted to let you know that things can still turn out well. I was told that after early bleeding 20% will misscarry and the other 80% will continue on normally. I hope all is well for you.

I know its hard, but try not to worry, I had VERY heavy bleeding at around 8 weeks. I filled 2 and a bit pads in about and hour and a half and i went to the hospital, they did a blood test and an US and everything seemed ok, the bleeding stopped and I went home. The next day it started again and I went to the hospital again but by the time I got in, it had stopped again. By this stage I had resigned myself to a MC.

Turns out bubs was fine and I had nothing to worry about, 7 months into pregnancy and hes still going strong (due in feb/march)
:fingerscrossed: yours will be the same :hugs:
