Hi every1,

Im a July/August mummy to be :) and im just wondering how much weight we have all put on? I know its not the best question  but i have put on 15kg now and am not sure if thats too much for a first pregnancy? One of my friends gave birth about 2 weeks ago and she only put 6kg on and this is her first.
I was 54kg to start with so i am feeling REALLY heavy now!!!

I would love to here some honest answers :D

I put on 10 kg and lucky me, it was all gone a week after I had my beautiful bub. I was in shock when i stepped on the scales! I was fully prepared to have to diet my butt off (literally!!)!!

Mind you, I also looked in the mirror and my face had totally changed and then I realised that most of my weight must have been retained fluid....I didn't realise how swollen my face (and legs) got until it went away and I looked like my old self again!

I was 97kgs when I started and 102kg when I gave birth. I did lose weight during pregnancy (got down to 90kgs) but it all came back so I guess all up I put on 12kg after the initial loss. I am now down to around 80/85kgs but I want to get down to around 75kg.

Hi there Jes, I put on about 20 kgs with my first, I was about 64 kgs before birth and after I went down to 53 kgs, With my second I put on about 15 kgs and after I went down to 55 kgs (last weigh in) until I worked at a pizza and pasta shop and I went up to 60 kgs, My last weigh in at the hospital I was 72 kgs and I was about 60-62 before I fell pregnant this time around... My weight is generally around 60 kgs after I stop breast feeding, everyone is different, but I think it is healthy to put on 15kgs, anymore than 25kgs is a bit much... I think if you give yourself 3 months roughly after birth to be back to your post birth weight that is healthy, but that is just roughly as everyone is different... I am a determined person to lose the weight I gained, I also feel better in myself if I am at the weight I desire as I don't like to feel big as I feel unhealthy, but that is just me and my personal opinion... Anyway, All the best, Haana :D

I am 35 weeks and have put on approx 15 kg. I am only now starting to feel really heavy but feel as though this wasn't an unhealthy weight gain. As this was my first pregnancy I took the weight gain issue a bit easy on myself, as I am not a small framed person as well and have only weighed myself about 3 times. Pre-pregnant weight was 75kg.
So jes, I think (and have heard) approx 15 kg weight gain is aok!!

I just want to add my 2 cents to what you said Haana, and my apologies that this is a bit off the main thread topic - if you're breastfeeding then your first priority should be eatting well balanced meals and enough to sustain a good healthy supply of milk. As Haana said, three months might be too quick for some people to lose all the weight and still be healthy for a breastfeeding bub. In my experience (maybe I was unlucky) even a few days of not eatting enough over a holiday drastically affected my milk supply. Most of the weight will come off quickly after birth, within the first 3 to 6 months, but you might need to wait and work to get the last few kg off.

Hi there Martha M, I was just stating what worked for me, and as I said everyone is different, but if your a very determined person you will lose the weight, some people aren't as worried or aren't as determined as others... My weight is what makes me feel good about myself, So for this reason I am determined... Other people have certain factors in their life that make losing weight more difficult, whether you have had a baby or not... Some people are suffering depression, have been big for quite some time, are on medication or have a medical condition which could be why they find losing weight so difficult etc etc. I never stated that I was unbalanced in my diet, I am neither a health fornatic nor am I a junk food addict... I enjoy chocolate and the odd bout of red rooster chips, but other than that I am fairly balanced in my diet, and instill balance into my families diet as well... I also never said that 3 months was too quick to lose the weight, I think if you work really hard to achieve the weight you want no matter what time frame you give yourself, your balanced in both your mind and diet and determined to lose the weight, You can achieve almost anything... Like I said, EVERYONE is different... :)

Haana,

I'm sorry if I gave the impression I was criticising what you had said. I wasn't. I agree with what you have said, in your original post and in your new one. I wanted to extend what you had said because I was concerned that some women get so focused on their weight that they put their overall health at risk. And I'm not accusing you of this or anyone else who's posted on this thread of being so silly! I just wanted to put up a reminder for everyone have realistic goals (whether that's 3 weeks, 3 months or 3 years ) and to stay healthy for their own and their bubs sake.

It's all good (Martha M)... I get defensive very easy, and I guess I have an opinion, and then get up tight if I feel that I am being misunderstood... It doesn't help we are all due to have babies soon and have raging hormones (only I can say that, not the husband)...

Anyway, I hope everyone is great and not too uncomfortable, not too long to go now for us August mums... A friend of mine had a baby last thursday, a little girl, weighing in at 10 pounds 5 ounces, delivered naturally by her husband in 2 hours... OUCH!!! Her 11th... :p

I am starting to get impatient now, dreaming of the baby and looking at his little clothes and bits and pieces, Can't wait... Take care everyone :)

Well, I was told 9 months on 9 months off! You put the weight on over 9 months so it goes to reason that if you take it off in 9 months you're doing good :) btw i didn't manage to get back to my pre pregnancy weight before i got pregnant with no 2. I think i was at least 5-7 kilos heavier. Oh well, i will get there, when i stop havign babies :)

I started out out 78kg and topped out at 102kg (horrifying!).
Now one week after the birth I'm back to 89kg... got some work to do :p

hi guys,
I know this is completly different to what the rest of you are saying..
but im worried that i havent put enough on....
I am currently 23wks and 1day (but whos counting :) ) and have only put on
half a kilo.
Is this normal???
I am still eating the same as i was before... no more and no less
ok maybe a bit more chocolate.
But in regards to the original post.. There is nothing wrong with putting on 15kgs
in your pregnancy. My mum says she is still trying to loose the baby fat from my little brother and he's now 13!!! bless her!

Brooke,
I am in the same boat as you, I am 36 weeks and am the same weight as when I started. I am worried about it for some reason because I eat whatever I want to eat, am not exercising and would normally have to watch what eat.

But the ob is not worried and the baby is growing so I should be happy, but it just doesn't seem right to me.

I certainly did not have this problem with the last two pregnancies, and I should be happy!

Hi all,

Well my little emma is 19 days old today and i still havent got the guts to weigh myself i had to have a c-section and im pretty sure i still have alot of kgs to loose! All up i still only put on 16kgs so im hoping i have less than that to loose now. To tell you the truth, with having a baby in hospital i really dont even care about looking at myself in the mirror long enough to see the extra weight. I simply dont have time to be worried about myself when all i can think about is how well Emma is doing that day  Im pretty sure the MUM thing has kicked in, i think totally different now!

Well good luck to all of us needing to loose a few kgs, take it slow and do it the healthy way :)
