I just watched a video i hired from the library this morning on "baby basics" and in the breastfeeding part it says that breastfeeding helps mothers' tummies to shrink back to their normal size. My sisters told me this before and i've read it millions of times. But it really made me wonder today what happens with mothers who bottle feed from birth?
Does ur tummy never go back to shape:confused:
Is it harder to lose the baby weight:confused:
Do your breasts still "sag"
So... for all you ladies that bottle fed from the start, is your body different to a mother that breast fed from the start? And how so?
I tried to google some answers but found nothing... mainly because i dont know what to search. So i thought u ladies might be a bit more helpful, seeing as tho u have been through this before.

Not all mothers that breastfeed loose the baby weight quicker.
I bottle fed and within a week my tummy was back to normal.
Every body is different.... i was lucky and didnt put on much weight during my pregnancy.
If you eat right and excersise you shouldnt have any troubles getting your old body back.
Breastfeeding assists in returning your uterus to it's former self quicker. That is probably what they were implying more so than loss of weight. I bottle fed from about 5 days on and my stomach came back relatively quickly so don't be concerned. As long as you have a healthy diet whilst pregnant and after the baby is born and combine that with exercise you should be ok. Your age is on your side too!!

I've read this also...I asked my Ob and Dr and they both said it was an old wives tale....I have also recently heard that apparently a lot of Celebrities are choosing to bottle-feed straight up cos that is suppose to make you lose weight quicker cos you body realises it doesn’t need to hold on to everything for the milk:confused: so they both contradict each other...
I really think it all comes down to your own body...but I’ll have to wait and see as well :fingerscrossed:

Breastfeeding never helped me lose the baby weight - it gave me the appetite of a horse and there was no way I was losing weight with what I was eating no matter how much milk I made :banghead:.
I am probably the only woman in history who GAINED weight from breastfeeding

Your tummy does go back to normal, whatever normal is after having a child.
Breastfeeding is NO garuntee to loose weight and I really wish they would stop spouting that. I have known of plenty of women who have breastfed who have struggled to loose weight and plenty of women who have bottle fed whose weight just fell off. It all comes down to the individual.
Breasts will olways sag, it's just a matter of time. Mine do and I only breastfed for 6 weeks, but then they are the size of melons now so that may have something to do with it.
Can't answer your last question but women really have to learn not to compere each others bodies. Life can be hard enough, losing weight can be a long and frustrating process especially after a baby and compering ourselves to women who have "sprung back" is really cruel on ourselves, doesn't everyone agree on that one!

Thanks ladies that helps!:hugs:
But i guess only time will tell hehehe
I have no idea I exclusively breastfeed and my tummy is flat as ever!! I am also a lot thinner now too
hi,
i have a 9 month old bottle fed from day 10. I have found it hard to loose the baby weight, taking it time to shed, working but i have to eat right and work really hard in the gym. i have 2 friends that breast fed and one lost hers over the first 6 months and the other lost a far bit straight up and is finding it ard now to shift with no exercise. i think it just boils down to your body type. i think breast feeding for shore helps!!!

I entered pregnancy extremely fit, healthy and with a tiny tummy. Almost eight months later I still look 17 weeks pregnant - not that I was huge at that stage but that's the size my stomach is.
My exercise regime, level of fitness and diet is identical to pre-pregnancy and apart from my tummy, the rest of my body is back to my original size.
I now wear shirts two sizes bigger to hide my stomach. My jeans are also two sizes bigger so I can hide the flab :( I 'think' the c-section may have had something to do with it...the overhang is gone but the rest is fat.:o
I breast and bottle fed - same breast size but different (unflattering) shape.
Honestly - I thought due to my lifestyle (for want of a word...) I'd be looking a tad more like a yummy-mummy. I just picture myself as a pudding who'll never fit into my svelte tops and frocks again.
But at least I have my health!

I was probably at my fittest when I became pregnant and continued exercising throughout my pregnancy. I breastfed for 3 weeks, expressed for 3 more weeks and now I FF exclusively. I've found that my tummy is getting there (a bit too slowly for me) but I fit into my prepregnant clothes, so that's good.
Just remember your body took 9 months to change so much for your baby, you can't expect it to always go straight to the way it used to be. Give it time.
It's true that breastfeeding helps to stimulate the uterus to return to it's normal size quickly, but there's also a lot of extra stretched skin and fat that was used in pregnancy to battle with...
