so... my ex has invited me to go to his march out, our daughter will be 20 months, how long does it go for? we havnt seen him since Christmas so she will prob scream and want to be with him. do you think its better to just meet up with him afterwards, as he has leave pretty much all that night? we are traveling 6hrs the day before so im assuming she wont be in a good mood to start with!
and my major dilemma... is what do i wear :D is it formal? casual?
sorry for the long post but i dont know who else to ask and im guessing most of you have been through this already!
thanks xxoo
DH says it is about an hour - hour and a half (used to be an Instructor there for many years). The odds of your daughter seeing him in the corwd is probably quite slim - there are usually many many soldiers marching out.
You can get away with neat casual!

ok, from memory (16 months ago)....... the 'parade' itself goes for about an hour. Like Talia said, i doubt your daughter will spot him in the crowd as they really all look the same. You don't actually get to meet up with them until after the parade, when you'll be bused up to where everyone has lunch and they will arrive there about 20 min after all the families are settled in. The actual parade started at 10, but by the time lunch and everything was over and the buses started taking everyone back to the car park, it was about 12.30/1pm. The boys (and girls) then start their day leave and they can come back into town with their families to start the celebrations :)
The band that plays during the parade is pretty loud, and when they are handing out certain awards the crowd is expected to be silent, but there are always plenty of kids there.
Neat casual is fine. Some people do go all out, but not many.

To be honest I had enough trouble spotting DH in the parade straight away lmao. There are so many and all with similar looks, hair cuts and of course the same uniforms. Ours went for a little over an hour and required alot of "standing up & sitting down" repetitively. I dressed up for hubby's march out. Not formal as in a dinner function but I did make the effort to wear a nice dress & do my hair nicely because I would be meeting his friends and taking photos together. I wanted it to be a special day for us as a family. There were other families there in shorts and tshirts, thongs etc which I thought was a bit disrespectful but then that's just me, lol.
Hay my hubby is marching out early next month, just wanna know if i should wear heels or not ? :)

some people do.... there's really not much walking that you have to do, just from car to bus - maybe 100 metres, then bus to parade ground which isn't far at all.
Most people make the effort to dress up a bit - remember there'll be lots of pics to be taken on the day :)
Enjoy

There are seats etc but unless things have changed in 5 years they are bleachers type seats (benches like at the footy)
If u want to wear heels go for it, I didn't and don't remember a bus we walked so if ur a good heel walker why not?
My dh marched out in oct and I remember it being freezing still so make sure u take a jacket too as it was very breezy for us xox

I wore heels :) But then again I'm only just over 5 foot so I mostly wear heels ! I wore a dress too. It was a bit more dressy than casual.
I figured I hadn't seen DF for 12 weeks, I wanted to look nice :)
