When do kids come out of their car seats?

DD is at school and asked me today "when do i get to sit in the big seat and not be in the baby seat anymore".

No doubt someone has put this in her mind at school!!! So just wanted to check- when are they supposed to come out? Is it age or weight?

Shes in one of the maxi rider II seats.

I have heard they come out of the car seat when theyre 7 years old

I'd keep her in it until she grows out of it. There will soon be laws coming in (although we're not sure when) that state kids up to the age of 7 have to be in a booster. DS is in a Trek 8 (similar to the maxi) and I have no intention of taking him out of it for some time yet.

In either June or July they will be bringing in the new laws stating that they have to be in a car seat until the age of 7.

Yeah he's the 5th. When we got DS's seat he was in a foam booster and we kept telling him it was his big seat and told him just how much safer it was for him and the only time he's questioned me is when his cousin sits in the front seat and he wants to too.

Like you said though it sounds like someone has said something to her or around her to give her that idea.
