Hi everyone,
Obviously having a wriggling bubs on your lap changes the whole movie experience a little - but are cry baby movie sessions worth seeing?

I've been to two "babes-in-arms" sessions in Qld. They are just general session times but advertised on-line as for parents. There are child-free people in the audience which I found a little awkward.
I only had to pay for me and it was a discounted rate. I guess they figure you won't see the movie uninterrupted so they compensate you a little.
My DS was really good in the first movie (we had compliments from a complete stranger in regards to this) but HATED it the second time round. He was about four or five months the first time and it was very exciting. Then next time he was about 7 months and if he wasn't squirming he was screaming. I ended up sitting on the floor right down the front under the screen with him laying across my legs with his head upside down. This is the only way he'd stay still and not scream.
It wasn't a great movie though - maybe that was his issue.
i think they are great when your baby is pre - 6 months old OR a good baby....
We went to a few when Samuel was little...
the first few were great, he just slept or fed during them
once he was awake more and moving around it became pretty hard to enjoy the movie so we started going to the driveins instead !
We would go to a late session, Samuel would fall asleep in his car seat on the way there and stay asleep (most times....)
If he did wake at least we knew it was only us he was bothering iykwim?
Now he enjoys going to the driveins to see a movie :smiliedance:
next week we are taking him to see "Cars"

A while back there was a thread in the movies section about these sessions... from what other mothers were saying, a lot of the time they only show family movies anyway...
I have taken DD to the movies 3 times...each time I saw a kids movie with her (Charlie and the Chocolate factory when she was like, 2 months old...Chicken Little and Ice Age 2 as well...when she was crawling age). All 3 times she's been really well behaved...she slept through most of it.
The reason I took her to a general session, was because I figured that, being a kids movie, there'd be lots of little kids in there too...and IMO, they could quite possibly make just as much (if not more) noise with their laughing/question-asking as a baby would.
If your bub is young, perhaps you could have them in a carrier and have a bottle (if you bottle feed) on hold just in case they wake up ready for a scream. If bub is a bit older, perhaps you could try and find a session time that would coincide with bubs normal nap time...hopefully he/she will fall asleep for a bit, and then you can enjoy the film. Have a rusk/snack on hand in case bub wakes and wants to be a bit rowdy.
I love breadsticks and baby muesli bars for DD when we're out in quieter public areas...I can just give her one and she'll shut up for a while!
I too would recommend them for when your bubs is under about six months. Any older than that and they won't sit still. I think it would be great when you have a newborn and all they do is feed and sleep.
I have to say though that when I did go I did find it a little annoying hearing some of the other bubs cry when they were right behind me as I couldn't hear the movie properly. Harsh I know but I'm just being honest. As least the friends I were with took their babies out when they were crying too loud.

For DS's first summer we lived at the movies  We didn't have air con and the movies were a nice dark, cool environment for DS to have his lunch time nap. There's only one Babes in Arms session here per week so most of the time it was a general session that we went to. I found I liked the general ones better because other babies crying would upset DS. We did this up until he was about 12months old. Basically, I would find an aisle seat near the back, breastfeed him at the start, then burp him over my shoulder while rocking him in the aisle and he would be asleep within minutes. Sometimes I would hold him, other times I would lay him on the seat next to me with a bunny rug lay down first and then watch the rest of the movie :D I haven't tried it again with him since then though...
