Have been thinking about painting childrens art on canvas to sell at the town market. I painted four pictures for my daughter before she was born, as i found theres not alot of childrens art out there to buy. What is out is boring and exspensive. All my friends think its a great idea and love the paintings i've already done. Just wondering what other mothers would like to hang up on the childrens walls.

Hi nadrose, sounds like a great idea. Perhaps you could also offer custom pieces (for the right $ of course!), and then you could do a particular theme that the child liked and maybe incorporate their name into the painting. Good luck! :)

How about painting names onto the canvas? You could have a supply and also make to order.

Want to sell them at my local market in Dalby Q.L.D but thinking of putting them on e-bay as well. Just to see how they go before doing a website and selling them on line. [text deleted by moderator]

If you are looking for different ideas try going to a material shop and looking at the kid's prints. Heaps of mum's I know have made quilts from spotlight stores and would be looking to match them.

Good luck with it all and if all goes well Toowoomba has a farmers/country markets each year that runs for 4 days (from memory) around xmas for presents.

I am currently painting paintings for the kids I look after for a christmas present! I look after about 15 kids all together regularly so I'm starting early incase i make mistakes

Ive already completed three so ill let you know what ive done, for one of the kids whos just turned one i painted blocks with each block having a letter of her name so more personal than abc and also used colours ot match her bedroom, for her older sister whos 7 ive painted all different coloured balloons at different heights with the letters of her name on it.

Im currently in the middle of my third one which is a butterfly- the background ive done lime green her fave colour and then a purple butterfly and im waiting for it to dry and then im going to use the glitter glue to make sparkley patterns on it!
Hope this helps x

Great idea Nadrose! I did the market thing in Sydney for 2 years selling my prints and original works, and what I found was that parents love particular themes such as underwater scapes, fairies in the garden and any general natural theme that may have a fantasy element to it. After that, I then branched off to do personalised commissions where parents would give me photos of their children, pets, favourite toys etc, which I then turned into an original drawing. I made the little girls into fairies or angels and the boys usually into elves and pixies. Pets were also incorporated into the background in a garden setting where the parent would also get to choose style of garden and what kinds of flowers or trees were to be placed into it.............the sky is the limit with this kind of thing, I wish you all the best.

I'm into a lot of 'hippy-ish' stuff ... that's suitable for kids lol
Lots of bright colours, I have an imprint of a harmonious wheel in my head so I'm always told to 'match up!" lol

I do basic things, like shapes, swirls, squiggles... I love doing butterflies (at the moment working on glass art though lol)... There always colourful, go with backgrounds of gardens or the sky...

Umm, trying to think of 'subjects' I've done. Retro is good, partridge family bus springs to mind! lol daisy's. Whatever comes into your head, just paint it hehe

AJ has a space theme to his room, So rocket ships, stars, planets etc.
You could look at nursery rhymes too, like Jack and Jill, Hay diddle diddle.. did someone else suggest that? I'm sleepy and my brain hurts...
