Hello,

I'm thinking of having our next baby in North Shore Private. If you've had your baby there could you please let me know what your experience was like? I have to have a caesarean under a general anaesthetic because of a medical condition I have so if you've had a similar delivery that information would be great also.

I'd appreciate any recommendations for an obstetrician as well.

Thanks,

Mum to Luke :)

I can highly recommend NSPH. Certainly the most luxurious private hospital in the country. As for a c-section under general there, can't answer that one. I see Dr Gil Burton who is excellent, highly recommended. When booking an OB for NSP, you have to get in quick though, as the good Dr's go very quickly. Good luck with it all.

Thanks so much for letting me know your experience at NSPH and for the recommendation of Dr Gil Burton. Luke was born September last year. Hope all goes well in December for you.:)

Hi there.

DS was born by c-section there in Nov 04. IT is a beautiful 5 star hospital - does not even smell like hospital or antiseptic and it's got a nice "warm" atmosphere.

I was very impressed with my c-section (during and after). I had a great OB Dr Rod Baber and I have no scar and it was such a small cut. I didn't go under general,I was up walking the corridor the next day and the midwives were lovely.

And yes, you must book in as soon as you find out you are pregnant as it is very hard to get an OB at "late" pregnancy note (i'm talking 6 weeks +)

hope this helps

I had my daughter there last July and had a great experience. I had a difficult birth - long labour followed by emergency c-section but I felt great afterwards, no pain at all, and after baby being born at 6.30pm was up and walking around the following morning. The rooms are really nice and food was not bad either.

I will definitely go there again if I am ever brave enough to have another baby! As has already been mentioned, you need to book as soon as you find out you are pregnant. I have heard of girls trying to book in there when 6 weeks pregnant and finding it almost impossible to get an Ob. I had Dr Felicity Gallimore who is just lovely and did a great job on my caesar.

Best wishes
Luci

Hi Girls

I was wondering what the O/B's at RNSP charge?

I am with Chris Hunter & he is roughly $5000.

What about Gill Burton, Felicity Gillmore & others?

Just interested for next time :)

Gil Burton's fee is $4500. $1500 of that is non-claimable from Medicare, the remaining $3000 is and you'd expect to get about 80% back from Medicare, depending on if you've reached the safety net.

I too had our daughter at NSP under Dr Rodney Baber. He was a wonderful OB but sadly was overseas when A was born so Dr Morris and Dr Ford delivered her. I also had a c/s but has a spinal not general and I must say my scar is barely visible and I was also up and around the next day.

Just a hint - stock the bar with mini champagne bottles and celebrate with all your visitors! Thats what we did and everyone enjoyed it :)

I had my daughter by c section at North Shore Hospital(not the private) and it was the most enjoyable experience!! I'm so glad i didn't fawk out $5000 (thats what it would have cost me). My friend had her baby in the private bit and our experiences were not too dissimiliar.
I'm sure whatever you choose you will have a lovely experience, they are both wonderful hospitals and i have only ever heard great things about them.

Just to give you another option, I had my DS at the Mater, which is around the corner from NSP, and it was fantastic. I couldn't reccomend it highly enough.

I have heard wonderful things about NSP too so either way I don't think you can go wrong. Good luck!

I had my DD1 there in FEB 2004 and it was fantastic, they were flat out though.
I had DR Vijay Roach, he was great but i think he costs heaps. I was in the Navy back then so it cost me nothing.

But the hospital was excellent.:smiliedance:

Hi ladies!

I just found out a few days ago that I am 5 weeks preg and am considering both NSP and The Mater (leaning more towards NSP I think)? Any suggestions for which one is better?

Also, I had my first DS in public at RHW @ Randwick so this will be my first private experience so pls excuse the vague questions... When you book into a private hospital (which I understand I should do this week to get in), do you have to pay a deposit immediately? If so, how much is this usually for RNS? I'm also yet to confirm my EDD with my doc, I've only done a HPT so far.

Any other advice for booking in would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Congratulations on your pregnancy!:yelclap: NSP is great, I loved it, and was lucky enough to be put in the 'Crowe Suite'. You can't book in to the hospital until you've got an OB. Yes, a non-refundable deposit of $200 is required to book your place. Also, in regards to OB's, the sooner you book, the better. Most OB's book out before you are 6 weeks pg!! Very, very popular indeed. Good luck with everything.

Thanks so much for your reply gemmaandlachlansmum! I've made a tentative booking at NSP now and waiting for the forms to be sent to me. Now I just need to book an OB today! My friend is due two days before me and also booked into NSP and she booked an OB today but said most were already booked out.
Well thanks again for your help
