I am 20 weeks and have a case of thrush, which I have heard is quite normal in pregnancy. Dh has been to the chemist for me and spoke firstly to the pharmacist who gave him the canesten pessary and cream, and said to use the pessary, just insert with your finger instead of the applicator. When he took it to pay for it, the lady there told him to just use the cream and not use the pessary at all. Which advice is correct? Has anyone else been in this situation and what were you advised?

I recently had Thrush and I was told only to use the cream by the Ob he said to only insert the applicator in half way with the cream. I had a bad case of it and ended up needing 2 course of the 3 day cream!!!!
Goodluck Not nice is it everything comes with pregnancy:thumbsup:

Ok, I will stick to just the cream. Thanks!
hi
i had thrush when i was pregnant too, i got told the same as the pharmacist told you.
Use the pessaries - but dont use applicator. And use the cream to sooth the outer itchiness!
Thats what i got told, and i did that and it worked. Although thrush in pregnancy can be quite stubborn, i guess cos of all the hormones!

Ive sufferd from thrush so much this pregnany :(
Midwife advises to keep using canestren with the appilcator.
Dont use the appilcator if your waters have broken
When will it end.. Im overdue and have it again :(

I've been told to use the pessary without the applicator also. My friend suggested though ('cause I hate the pessaries) to go natural - she said it feeds on sugar and yeast, so try one whole day without sugar and yeast and it should clear up. Other methods are cleaning with a mixture of water and vinegar, though that didn't work for me last time.
I'm freaking out that it's coming back again! I might try the once only pessary next time? Anything wrong with that?

hi,
i was just about to get on and start a thread on this. I'm pretty sure i've got thrush - i've looked on the net and seems consistant with what im experiencing. I started antibiotics last thursday and have started itching over the weekend.
Im seeing my GP tomorrow to check up on the UTI so will ask her about thrush also.
Meanwhile DH got some hydrozole cream to (hopefully) stop the insane itching!! im almost ready to cry about it! :(
hope you've got some releif also

Updaduff- I think it may be thrush, Unfortunely,
I had a UTI that was treated with antibiotics and that was the cause of thrush for me.. That happened when I was 24 weeks pregnant and It feels like its been never ending since

Had the same problem, i was told using the applicator was safe and if i only used the cream on the outside it would be pointless cos thrush comes from inside and needs to be treated from that side! i only inserted it halfway only cos i couldnt insert it the whole way and also used the cream on the outside...all better now :D btw i was given the 7 day canestan by my doctor...if it helps shes female too.
