View Full Version : Time Capsule Wording
Hi
I am stealing the excellent idea that others have had on this forum of putting together a time capsule for DD for her 18th bday.
I have decided to ask family members and friends to bring something to put in the capsule in lieu of birthday presents when she turns one.
I know that there are some great poets/wordsmiths amoung us and I'm just wondering if anyone can come up with a rhyme, note . whatever to include in the card to ask for contributions to the capsule instead of a present and maybe giving them suggestions.
My suggestions so far are a letter, poem, photo, newspaper of the day, c.d., magazine anything at all!!!
Any suggestions gratefully received. I'm sure my rellies are going to think I'm barmy so it would be good to suggest it too them in a fun way:ecomcity:

i love the time capsule idea i'm having 1 each for my children at their christening,i'm going to set up a table in private area and have some archival paper and pens and ask everyone to write the kids a note to be opened on their 21st birthday or the christening of their first child.
Thats a lovely idea too candlelover
cmmon you budding poets:D
Yep I'm bumping my thread:shame:
excellent idea.. wish i could help though!
i never thought of doing anything like that.
I do keep boxes of goodies from when they were young.. i have all there keepsakes in it.
Soon I'll be one, time passes so fast;
so instead of more toys I'd like gifts that will last.
Think of things peculiar to my special day,
My mummy will take them and hide them away.
Then when I grow up my gift it will be,
And I'll know just how much you all think of me!
So pictures, papers, things that will show
Just how different the world is to that I now know.
I know I am loved, you show it so well,
but whether Barbie stays cool...
Only time will tell!
*I am sure you could personalise this one (especially the Barbie bit, I have no clue what is "cool" to a 1 year old ) if you like the general feeling.
Good luck for the special day!

BlueGin - where were you when i needed this :p
I got a little book that everyone wrote a little bit in which is in his time capsule this is also a great idea. Especially having his great grandparents say their own thing is awesome because they possibly may not be around.
Can i just give you some advice ....
A lot of my family had no idea what to do or what i really was trying to get at so got him 18th birthday gifts
So yeah he got things that werent suitable like an "18th birthday" frame ( yeah like a male needs that !!!! ) anyways so make sure you give people an idea. Dont get me wrong a lot of people do get it & you get great things like the paper for their birth date ( my aunty even went in search of a magazine of his month of birth & the year !!! Luckily she works for Home Care so many of the old ladies had all their old copies LOL ! ). He has letters from my Nan & my Mum who wrote about my Gramps & Father who have passed away letting him know a bit about them etc. He got coins of his birth year etc etc. But again some people just dont get it ! So be warned lol.
Anyways good luck its heaps of fun :D

Thanks for the warning:D Maybe I'll put some suggestions around the edge of the poem or just ask them to contact me if they dont get it!
I love the idea of the grandparents writing something, my parents are old crinkleys so will not be around so it would be lovely for her to have something from them
Thanks for the tips. Glad you were trawling Bluegin!!
Im stealing this awesome idea for my little ones naming day - thank you :) any suggestions on the wording for the invites please????
