Hi there, does anyone have a yummy recipe for buiscuts suitable for a 7 month old that doesn't have dairy in them? Maddi is loving her bread rusks that I make but it woul be nice to offer her something different like a buiscut. A lot of the ones in the supermarket have dairy in them.

There used to be a recipe for baby biscuits made using rice cereal and other ingredients on the Heinz website. It used baby apple juice as the wet ingredient.

I don't have a copy, and I never tried it.

from the Heinz recipe book - they don't give samples, but do send the book which I find useful.

Hi-Iron Baby biscuits
1 cup iron enriched cereal
1 cup plain flour
1 cup baby fruit drink (this means that it is already diluted)

sift flour, add cereal, mix with fruit drink.
knead and roll out to 6mm thick.
cut into biscuit shapes and bake at 180 degrees until light brown.

these biscuits should be quite hard to encourage biting and chewing

Hi Iron Muesli Cookies (these say they are for babies from 8-9mths)
1 cup muesli and apple cereal
1 cup plain flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
30g margarine
1 cup fruit drink

sift flour and baking powder, rub in margarine to resemble bread crumbs
add muesli, add liquids and mix to a soft dough.
place heaped teaspoonfuls on a lightly greased tray
lightly flatten with a fork dipped in flour
bake at 180 degrees until light brown.

There are other recipes in the book as well including no dairy muffin mixes for over one year olds.

Just send an e-mail to Heinz asking for the book and happy cooking :chef: .

Hi guys,
well my DH went out and bought all the ingredients so that I could make the cookies. Only thing is that when I read the packet for what was in the baby meusli I found that the Heinz baby muesli contains skim milk powder. So a word of warning to parent with bubs with cows milk allergy.

Bingo, not sure which one you got, but I use the Iron Enriched High Protein Multigrain Mix - the ingredients are
Oat Flour
Wheat Flour
Soy Flour
Gluten
Vitamins (C, Niacin B3, Thiamin B1)
Mineral (Iron)

There is a series of ticks on the front and on the side next to each tick it has a comment - good source of iron, source of Thiamin, Niacin and Vitamin C, no added sugar or salt, egg and yeast fee, milk and lactose free, no added colours, flavours or preservatives.

Maybe the store will switch the one that you bought for this one. :fingerscrossed:

Thanks guys,
I managed to source a muesli for babies at our local health food store but I will endevour to take the other stuff back to Coles to exchange.
The bikkies are a hit with Maddi, she is as we speak chowing down on one. They are hard but she seems to be loving it. Thanks heaps and I would like to highly recommend the recipe. (I made the Hi Iron Muesli cookies).
