Did you child have a first birthday party? How important is it to have a first birthday party? If u child didnt have a party, wat did u do for there first?
Im feeling guilty about my DS not having a party, i really want him too but he doesnt have any little friends to invite and i dont have enough family to just do it with family. I have no idea wat im going to do :( i really want to make it special even tho he wont understand.

I think it would be fine to just make sure you get a photo of your DS with a cake and candles. (and then an aftershot of a demolished cake with most of it on your DS's face!!!) So long as there photos to show that you did makr the occassion in some way :)
Hi,
Its my DDs 1st birthday on the 31st march, which is a tuesday, so on saturday 28th we are having a little party, just family (about 20-25ppl), nothing too exciting just nibblies/bbq lunch/cake.
I didnt want anything too big, it can be quite overwhelming and exhausting for young toddlers to have lots going on and lots of people around, noise etc.
On her actual birthday we will have a special lunch, and i might make some little cupcakes or something so we can sing happy birthday again.
And as Cordelia said take lots of photos, so we can look back and remember her special day. And its nice for kids as they get older to look through photo albums too.

We did bbqs with family and close friends, nothing over the top or anything. I think it this age they don't really NEED parties because they wouldn't remember anyway, but maybe just something small like a few people over and some cake or something. Thats my opinion anyway.

i threw a HUGE ONE:chef:
but thats me i love throwing parties any excuse will do lol.
no my DS didnt have friends at the time lol as he didnt go to care but we had alot of friends who had children that had been involed in his life from birth so i guess it was a thankyou for being there as well- i dont think DS gave a hoot whether we had it or not lol. i think in total there was around 50ppl including children- round i think about 15children i total
i did a cool DVD invite- had a jumping castle so all the kids stayed outside and only did finger food. i loved it- his 2nd bday certainly wasnt as huge and i feel sorry for the second baby as theres NO way i can top that lol:no:
its a personnal thing to do, i know may friends that have had a close family thing and thats fine to as thats what they want

I had an afternoon tea with just nibbles/finger foods and cake. I had it at about 3 so dd could have her nap at 1..and not be a grumpy bub for her guests.
I only had my close family, so about 10-15 people..it was perfect. I didn't have any little friends for dd there, she loved being the centre of attention
I didn't even have a fancy cake, just an ice cream cake from coles $12...and none of it was left!
I didn't spend a fortune on food and the family was happy to help out and bring something to share of arvo tea. I had a couple balloons because dd is obsessed with balloons and a banner saying happy 1st b'day..and that was it for deco's!..
I did spend $40 on her fairy dress though :o but she looked gorgeous!
You dont need to make it fancy and huge..just small and simple, take lots of piccies so you will remember it :)

We will be having one, cause making it to their first birthday will be a hard slog with triplets & anyone that has helped us along the way will be invited.
As for my first birthday, my parents made a big deal out of it. All the family was invited & was in a park near where we lived.

Ds will be having a little gathering. Probably just a bbq with a cake, pressies and a few family members.
He doesnt have any little friends yet either, but mum, dad, gran etc will come along to celebrate :).
We plan on just having an afternoon tea/bbq sort of get together for DD's first birthday. We will be in Perth with my family just before her birthday so will have a bbq there, and then another one with DP's family back here in Brissy on her actualy birthday.
I don't think DD will notice that it is a party for her since she is the center of attention all the time anyway , but I still want to do something since it is a pretty big deal to me!
DH and I have been thinking the same think Kayla. Should we bother with a 1st birthday? Flynn's is weekend after next and we still haven't decided... we were thinking maybe a few friends and family in a park, nice cake etc.. but maybe not even that. I haven't organised a thing yet :o
with my DD I have gone allll out for all her birthdays.. her first was huge, spent lots of money and had lots of people. Yes, it was fun.. but she doesn't remember a thing! and honestly, it was hard work (as a lot of parties are) and I didn't get to enjoy the day with her as much as I should have.
I agree with the PP who have said at least make a special cake and get some nice photos.. maybe have just a handful of people over for pizza, even just your mum and dad (if that's appropriate).. dress Jaylen up all nicely and take some lovely pics!
I think 1st birthdays are more for the adults than the kids.. (I enjoy going to them!)
