Hi all,
I have been trying to research this topic for quite some time, without any luck. My partner and I have been together for quite a long time and now want to start a family. We have decided that we want to use an unknown Donor. We have also decided that we want to do it ourselves in the comfort of our own home with frozen sperm. Has anyone done this? However, I have not been able to find any information regarding the legal side of this. Will my partner still have the same legal rights as she would if we did it in a clinic? Would she still be recognised as the parent of the child?
Does anyone know where we can purchase SAFE unknown frozen donor sperm that will ship directly to a private residence? Or do they all only ship to clinics? If that is the case, is there a clinic in NSW that will provide us with the sperm once it has been shipped to them so that we can inseminate ourselves at home? Or will they only help us if we agree to do it in the clinic? I would really appreciate any help with this. i do not know where to start. As far as I know, I am not infertile, and so I see no reason why I need to go to a fertility clinic and therefore receive treatment for infertility.

Regards,
DJNelly

In NSW any form of insemination (home or clinic) does state equal parenting rights for same sex couples- this excludes intercourse between a man and a woman.

PM me your email if you would lke the legislation and facts on this.

I wish the best of luck, I would be interested to see if your NSW clinic will allow you to take it home. My partner and I are the same, I know you have to get the sperm as soon as possible but interviewing etc just makes it messy. If you found out anything please let us know and I will do the same.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies to my post. Thanks especially to you My Little Belle. The information you have given me is very much appreciated.
Further to my post above, I am wondering if anyone knows a "Lesbian/same sex" GP who may be able to help me out or have more information on what my options are. If anyone has gone through this and can recommend a GP that would be great.

Thanks for your help.

Where in NSW are you? If you are in the inner west or near PM me and I can help.
My partner and I went through the same journey over a year ago now.

We are now looking forward to to birth of our son(any time now)

Good luck

There's a really useful and recently updated website which contains legal information relevant mainly to those of us in Victoria - plus a whole lot of other info relevant to all of us who are currently creating and parenting rainbow families (- that is, LGBTI parented families). See www.rainbowfamilies.org.au (http://www.rainbowfamilies.org.au)

We're on to trying for number two - I feel just as anxious second time around!

:flowerz: Good luck everbody!!
