Be a part of a focus group discussion with other pregnant and new mums for my PhD research! See my research website http://babybumpproject.tripod.com/ for further information...

Group 1: Friday, 9 June at 10am
Topic: Pregnant body image

Group 2: Friday, 21 July at 10am
Topic: Public pregnancy

Group 3: Friday, 1 September at 10am
Topic: Motherhood

Group 4: Friday, 6 October at 10 am
Topic: Pregnant body image

Location: Queen Victoria Women's Centre

Consult www.qvwc.org.au for directions

Groups 1 and 4: This group will focus on how you experience(d) pregnancy during each trimester and your thoughts on pregnant body image. As it is generally agreed by scholars, the media in Australia and elsewhere encourages women to maintain a slender figure, I would like to know how you feel about gaining weight during pregnancy and the pressure to ‘get your body back’ after birth. I am also interested in your perceptions of the ways the media treat pregnant bodies. For example, I would like to hear your thoughts on maternity clothing, celebrity pregnancies and advice about diet and exercise during pregnancy.

Group 2: In this group, we will discuss how easy it is to be a pregnant woman in public. For example, I will ask you questions about whether you think people notice(d) your pregnancy in public places and how your lifestyle changed whilst pregnant. I am also interested in what images of pregnancy you have seen in the media and how you feel about them. For instance, I would like to know what you think about pregnant women wearing tightly fitting maternity clothing.

Group 3: This group will focus on your thoughts on the transition to motherhood. I am interested in how you feel your life has changed since becoming a mother and what you think it means to be a mother. I am also interested in finding out how you negotiate your work or professional identity with your identity as a mother. For example, I will ask you if your views on feminism have been affected since becoming a mother.
