View Full Version : DD is scared of the big bath

I've started bathing DD in the big bath as she's getting too long for the baby bath and she keeps splashing too much  (I've got the Palma change table with bath underneath).
Anyway, she is TERRIFIED of the big bath. She cries and shakes :( I even tried hoping in the bath with her tonight and she still cried.
I don't get it... It's not the water, it can't be. I've had her in the shower with me and had water running over her whole head - she giggles  She loves it
Any advice would be much appreciated! I'm sick of mopping water off the floor from splashing, but I don't want her scared.
Does she have a favourite toy you could give her in the bath that might calm her down?
My DS never had a problem with the big bath, but out of the blue would scream in it, and try to get out. He loved to play with cups, and once we gave him some cups instead of his usual bath toys, he was fine and we haven't had a problem since.
Good luck!
Do you use a bath seat in the big bath? I found that DD felt more secure in the bath if she was in a bath seat rather than being supported by my hands. We just use one of the cheap plastic ones from Target.
The favourite toy as previously mentioned is a good distraction technique. :)

Thank you for your replies :flowerz:
I hopped in with her last night and gave her a set of keys that she NEVER puts down  Didn't cry, or even look scared. Very good distraction.. I haven't got a bath seat, but I will definitely look at one, I don't want to have a bath with all the time he he.

I used to put the baby bath inside the big bath, meant less water, splashing goes down the plug hole and my boys were much happier as they were not fans of the big bath either. I just bought a shallow round tub from bunnings.:)

Are you able to put her baby bath in the big bath? Maybe if you bath her like that for awhile she might get used to the surroundings of the big bath and then you could try removing it.

Oooh I like that idea  Slowly get her used to the big bath.
Thank you :flowerz:
